Where would you have a cool low-key event in Disney World?

If you were having a smallish get together, say 30ish people and wanted to do some kind of not too expensive, but interesting affair, can anyone think of a good place to do so?

Are you thinking free? If you want to be in a park, you can rent out part of Mama Melrose, I think.

Also, you could do something in the big empty, covered space right outside of the International Gateway.

A friend of mine did this recently! She rented out some room in MGM (I just can't call it HS) and they had a birthday party for her husband. They had a nice dinner buffet and a personalized tour of the Osbourne Lights..she also had Mickey come!
I think the price tag was a bit hefty on hers but she added a lot of extras. I wish I could remember what that room was called. Anyway, I saw pictures and it looked so awesome. I wish I could have gone!

Is this what you're talking about?

They can accommodate just about any type or size function you want. It's all going to come down to how much you want to spend. For me personally, unless it was a VERY important (as in once-in-a-lifetime) occasion, I would not spend a ton of money for a private area. There is plenty of magic to be had at the World without breaking the bank to reserve your own personal chunk of it. Along those lines, I would recommend one of the restaurants. You can work book on a contract basis where you negotiate a (total) price and menu in advance. When your guests arrive, they can order anything they want (from the prearranged limited menu) without having to worry about the cost. This would be pretty special for the attendees and relatively cost-effective. Booking a space without any other arrangements (ergo guaranteed revenue for the host) is going to be more expensive, relatively speaking.

I have not booked such a party with Disney. Just speaking from experience on how these things work in general.

A restaurant could definitely be a reasonably priced option. I wonder if they let you have gatherings in open areas if you have a large group. If everyone was just going to chat you could do someplace like the Art of Animation area or something like that?

It was called the Hollywood Hideaway and it was towards the back of the park near Toy Story Mania..I'm not sure exactly where. They had about twenty guest total..other than that all I know is the pictures looked amazing!!
I should try and get her here to explain a little better laugh

That would be awesome! I wonder if it would be easier to do that with one of the non-Disney-owned restaurants in DTD rather than a park restaurant. I'd love to check this option out...

The private events inside the Great Movie Ride looks pretty awesome.

Do you have any idea what that costs? I could believe just about any price. Well I guess I wouldn't believe it was cheap. But I'd believe anything from expensive to mind-blowing.
