Would you...

The price vs hotel thread caught my eye and made me think of this.

Would you ever consider going to Orlando with no plan whatsoever? Driving onto Disney property, going into a hotel, seeing what's available, then staying wherever they have a room for a week?

I think that would be very exciting, but the cost vs. risk might make me think twice.

I can see some excitement in that, but half the fun for me is knowing I'm going to be in a specific location and planning, etc. for the trip.

So, probably not.

I think this would be fun, but the price would have to be right. I would also have to have a couple of book-end trips planned so that I knew this wasn't my one and only chance to do Disney for a while.

Disney World is too far away and I'm too paranoid to do something like that!

Many years ago, my dad and I went to a football game at UK, and afterward we were going into Eastern Kentucky to look at some construction my dad was involved in.

We didn't have a reservation, and after leaving Lexington at 10:30 or so on a Saturday night, then driving another 90 miles or so, we found it virtually impossible to get a room.

We FINALLY found one at some small hotel in the middle of nowhere, but ever since that trip, I've NEVER gone anywhere without a reservation.

I think it was around 2:30 or 3 before we actually got to sleep that night.

It would be much more fun to try if you were independently wealthy. Too much room for error otherwise.

Although I've never seen that sign that says "Rooms Available Inside Walt Disney World Tonight" say "Rooms NOT Available...." in all the years I've been going.

It sort of loses its credibility since it's just a painted sign. Unless maybe Mickey comes out and a paints a big red "not" when they're sold out.

Yeah--I've come across a couple of instances that the rooms "appeared" all booked up. I say "appeared," because the computer booking system didn't have any rooms available. I assume there's always going to be SOMETHING on a night-by-night basis...might not be able to get a bunch of nights a row in the same place.
