Number 53 is in F1...

Ok, so this probably won't interest a lot of you - maybe it will, but the most famous of Disney numbers (after Club 33) - 53 - has made it into F1 for the Singapore Grand Prix.

US driver Alex Rossi originally wanted number 16 for his car but was blocked by Mercedes for it. Instead, he chose the car number of 'the last American to win at Monte Carlo', number 53.

Apparently this perplexed a lot of the journos present, who usually like to find out the story behind the number and how Alex believed an American won at Monte Carlo any time in the last generation.

He explained that it belonged to Herbie...and based on that choice, he may well become my favourite US driver...! haha

I have to admit, the moment I heard Alex Rossi had picked 53, the first thing that went through my mind was Herbie....

I think it's time for another sequel: Herbie Goes BACK to Monte Carlo.

We actually just watched Love Bug and Monte Carlo (and Snowball Express) last weekend in honor of Dean Jones since he recently passed away. My husband had never seen them and his assessment was that Love Bug was cute, but Monte Carlo was weird. I grew up on them and I kind of like Monte Carlo better. biggrin

The Love Bug is probably my favourite live action Disney movie and is what kicked off my love of cars. Monte Carlo should have been the last of the run - it went out on a high...the least said about Ocho in Herbie Goes Bananas, the better!

It's nice to see that there is also an emotional attachment to 53 outside the most obvious Disney fan...

Would be nice to see some sort of tribute scheme on the car if he races it in Monte carlo next year but seeing as how "non-fun" the governing body is i doubt it.
Would love to see a Throwback race like Nascar just had at Darlington with retro paint schemes etc.
