Alright guys...I need your help on this one. Mase has been bugging me for years to ride this one with him but I'm a chicken and won't do it. So i'm coming to ask your guys opinion on it...Do you think I should do it...And tell me what it feels like when you ride it. I'm not a big roller coaster person....I would probably be fine on them but I am always afraid that I will get sick or something would happen ya know. I ride things like test track and i did space mountain last year. So I want to know how this compares to that...Is it going to be like if I can handle those other rides then this would be fine or are they not similar. Thanks.
Tower of Terror
Jess,
I was afraid of this for years. Truthfully the anticipation of the drops are far worse than the drops them self. It is a very smooth ride. It is hard to tell if you are going up or down. Also a big plus when are afraid of something, it is over very quickly. I had to ride it a second time once he talked me into doing it just so I could enjoy it without so much fear. To me it is far less intense than Rock N Roller Coaster.
Honestly, I say go for it. I think you will end up really liking it. Then once you get off of it, make Mase treat you to something yummy from the sweet shop as your reward.
It is really not a roller coaster ride. Unlike a roller coaster where you have twists and turns, and some people might even get motion sickness on it, ToT only goes up and down.
And as Scrappy said, the theming of this ride is so perfect, they have scared you even before you get to the elevator. This is what makes this my most favorite attraction in all of WDW. It is what Disney is about, creating a story to fit in perfectly with the actual ride. No other theme parks/amusement park can or will put in this much effort in setting up a ride.
Just for that alone, you should ride ToT!
However, if you suffer a heart attack on it, I disavow all knowledge of this.
Zz.
I'm not a thrill ride fan and I think that you should give it a try at least once. The overall theming and story is really wonderful and worth the quick ride. As for the ride it's self, I'm not a fan of the up and down drop. If it was just a straight shot down it would be fine, but the up and down is annoying to me. It doesn't make me sick, and it's not "bad", I just really don't care for it.
Give it a try once, then you know how you really feel about it!
The biggest thing that gets me on roller coasters is the was my stomach feels when going down big hills.... So when tower of terror drops you does your stomach feel similar to going down a hill on a roller coaster or no... Cause if it doesn't feel like that then it wouldn't bother me at all
the drops on ToT don't feel like drops at all. they feel like you are weightless. which is awesome. actually the first time we went on it on our honeymoon. I didn't even realize we dropped the first time until I felt it going back up. and honestly, the view from the top is the best. it may only be for a split second, but I love it.
I avoid these drop top rides at other parks. I like ToT because they don't hold you there in anticipation. I really think you should do it just once. When it opened 15+years ago my brother and I talked my mom into going on it and she still talks about that ride. She wants to go back to WDW and ride that more than anything.
I have motion sickness issues, and I won't ride ToT. The worst thing for me on a roller coaster is the weightless feeling when you get "air time," and it isn't worth potentially ruining an entire park day just to find out whether the ToT drops are different.
The difference between a roller coaster and ToT is there is no "g force" effect on ToT. It a great ride Jess, you got to try it! You'll love it!
Here is scrappy on ToT!

Tikiman Pages / Mrhubs Disney FaceBook PageI love Space Mountain, and I will not do ToT again. I did it once, and I would say that you should do the same unless you're really, really fearful. I try to be open to doing everything once (well, Disney-ride-speaking, of course). But I HATE drops, and I hated the drop on ToT. So it's not the ride for me. (You needed a dissenting voice here
)
I don't think it gives the same swoopy feeling that roller coaster hills have. To me it's more jerky and abrupt. You're not weightless for very long and then it suddenly stops and you're headed up again. It's more like the feeling if you jumped off of a swing and then landed on the ground, over and over again, only faster and in no discernable pattern.

I like how you put that. it is exactly how you feel.
Also Jess. maybe try it once, right at the end of the night so if it does make you feel ill you can go back to the resort and chill out for the night. Ed and I went to DHS just to ride that one night right before close. We didn't wait at all. we were in and out of DHS in 20 minutes.
I finally gave in today and rode ToT. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I love your thinking! I also think you, Hubs, and us would have a blast together here!

I am so doing this if Jess does this!
Ok I think you all convinced me to do it...So I guess friday will be the big day...We shall see how it goes...and I guess i'm going to be videotaped thanks to Mr.hub
I have a Mickey Premium here that says that you will enjoy it. You'll be terrified before it, but you'll enjoy it!
I was also going to say that, in the case that you decided to NOT do it, you should at least go through the queue line up to the elevator-loading area. When you get to to the cast member who is loading guests into the elevator, you can always say that you want to opt out, and he/she will send you to the "chicken elevator" where you can leave the attraction via "conventional means".
{Little do they know that people who get sent into the chicken elevator never come out!}

Jess, I think you will be fine. Its not at all like a rollercoaster. Its a very smooth ride, and I'm betting when you ride it once, you'll want to ride it again! The experience is worth it. And I agree with Jeff....if you did OK on Space Mountain, you'll be more than fine on Tower of Terror. Can't wait to hear what you think of the ride.

Your welcome Jess! I think you'll be very surprised how smooth this ride is.

She went on the primeval whirl today... so I think this is a done deal now... lol
I'm so happy you are going on ToT, can't wait to hear what you think. You'll be proud of yourself for facing your fears. My daughter has been riding it since she was 2, and she still loves it! If you could do Primeval Whirl, Tot will be a piece of cake! I hate Primeval Whirl, but rode it twice last weekend. We especially appreciated the recorded directions at the end to "please stand up before exiting the ride" And I don't think it was meant as a joke? I guess Disney has to protect themselves legally from people who don't know to stand up before exiting the ride! crazy but true...

i love all rides pretty much. and i hated primeval whirl.
