Where is everyone?

I was just thinking about some of the members who have not been around for a while like Jess and Mace. And of course Jeff C. I miss their posts. Who else is MIA?

Unfortunately Miss Mikki, we do lose members from time to time. Life gets in the way, lives get busy, unfortunate things happen and misunderstandings occur. Sometimes people slowly fade into the mist.

I've been wondering about them too. We were lucky and got to meet Mase and Jess last November. Super nice people mickey I miss JeffC too Sad
Other MIA's are Kat, Taratru and Jmudukz. I know there's more but those are the first ones that come to mind. It's unfortunate that misunderstandings happen and that's why some people leave sad

Yeah.... sorry for not being around. 2014 has been interesting. For those who follow on Facebook know... it hasn't been the easiest year for me, but no need to go into it.

Family is good. Jess is no longer working at a hospital anymore. She is now working for Humana. And tell me if this is fair... she got a HUGE pay increase compared to the hospital. So she went from working her butt off to a nice desk job calling members if they need anything else from their insurance? So yeah... Kids are great as usual. Evan about got to go to Disney this week with family... but it ended up not happening which is a shame.

We are still planning our usual November trip this year, and next year we plan on going back in April then probably the first week of November. But gonna do a double trip again since we will have annual passes. So that will be fun!

So I shall try to show up here more often as life permits... Lol

Hi all!

Mase!!! Missed you and your short films!! laugh glad to hear Jess has found some 'peace' and a pay raise!!

I was also thinking about you and JeffC the other day!! I know how stuff gets in the way and things sort of fall off the plate. I was absent from the board for several months and am trying to get back in touch again. Didn't know I missed it until I started back in!! Of course it also has my 'gotta take a Disney trip' juices going, and that isn't in the cards for a while. Heavy Sigh.

It is the same for all the voices here - didn't know I missed all of you until I came back!!

Good to see your shining avatar!! biggrin

Good to see you Mase! Glad to hear that you're planning your regular November trip. Please share it with us if you get the chance.

We do miss King Fergus and Mr Ferret very much!

I miss JeffC quite a bit. Every now and then he'll check in via Private message but the forums aren't quite as sunny without him.

That's terrible! Why can't people just be nice to each other? He had a bad time on another site too before he joined us. Very sad because he seemed like a real enthusiastic guy.

I find it ridiculous that people would come into any forum, let alone one with the name "for Grown ups" right in the title, and harass other people. Absolutely disgusting and childish behavior. I happened to stumble upon the other site you are referring to, just a few months ago. There were several people that were downright vicious to King Fergus. They wrote some really awful things. It takes a lot to offend me and I was offended by what they wrote! It was appalling. I never returned to that forum and it makes me enjoy how kind and civilized everyone is on this forum even more awesome

I wasn't sure how to take King & Ferret at first, but as we got to know them more, I grew to really like them.

I didn't get a chance to get to know JeffC properly yet. His posts seemed to be slowing down right around the time I joined, but it's a bummer because he seems like a really cool guy.

I haven't seen as many posts lately from ZapperZ or The Colonel, but of whom I enjoy tremendously. I'm sure that The Colonel was VERY busy with his beautiful daughter's wedding, so hopefully we'll see him back soon. We might have to post some trading pin treads to draw ZZ out of hiding wink

Glad to see Mase back!!

Hopefully taratru and JMUdukz will find their way back, also! We're closing in on the start of the runDisney fall schedule, so maybe we'll be hearing about their upcoming adventures soon?? I've also not seen Karlipants for a while.

In the mean time, I'm grateful for all of you great folks who are still hanging out here with us! This forum is just the magical break I need from "real life" some days!! Love to all! muchlove

I also don't get why people (especially grown ups) bully. I hope the bullies either leave as well or grow up. We don't need nor want that behaviour around here. I feel so sorry for poor King Fergus. He really seemed to love it here and posted everyday. I imagine he misses it here sad Didn't something similar happen with VelcroPooh?

On a much happier and friendlier note, Welcome back Mase yay

There was a lot of good intentioned communication on the open forum that made me pretty uncomfortable. It really shocked me that it was happening here amongst such amazing people. I'm glad that things are setteling down but the loss is pretty evident. It's really sad.

I loved the King's posts... I can't believe that happened. Everyone seems so open and friendly on here! If any of you still talk to him personally tell him I said HI!

I know everyone is different, we all have different tastes and opinions but that's what coming together and talking about it is all about. If you don't like it, that's fine....

I, too, was also part of the other site that shall not be named. I didn't see entirely what people said to King Fergus or what King Fergus posted that ruffled a few feathers but long story short, it was brutal. By the looks of it, those same people chose to antagonize Fergus via private message, thereby making him leave this place. Nevertheless, I am extremely disappointed and hurt that grown adults would resort to bullying, which should have no place whatsoever. Not in the real world and not in the digital world either. I could go on and on about proper forum etiquette and that stuff but I think we all know what is proper to post and what is taboo to post around here and it is the moderators' mandate and obligation to notify and take the appropriate course of action if someone does post anything that is taboo.

Anyway, since then, I have exiled myself to posting in only the games and chit chat forum there because I don't feel valued or welcomed there in terms of talking Disney World related topics. (And the WDW topics on that forum all end up with the same result anyway so no variety in a forum is no fun either.) Maybe this is just me, but from my forum user experiences and this goes beyond just the Disney World forums I've been a part of, my feeling is that the bigger the forum and number of users there, the bigger the egos are. I think here, we don't have a "likes" or "points" or "stars" to distinguish ourselves and that probably works better. On bigger sites, they don't give a hoot who stays and who goes while here, there's definitely a tighter bond between users and I mean, who else would be willing to start a thread on the members they miss?

Like everyone else, I most certainly miss King Fergus and MrFerret. Speaking of which, I haven't seen starwarsgirl95, figgy and PhillNyc in a while. If they read it, I hope all is well and if it isn't, we're all here to send you love, hugs and pixie dust if you need it and that goes for anyone else I missed.

Agreed! I've only been on here since February and I feel the need to check in daily cause I want to see what everyone is up to or what they've been doing! Thanks for making me feel welcome everyone!

From my investigation, what happened with VelcroPooh was a big misunderstanding that blew up very quickly. The timing of a post she made clashed with the timing of a post a moderator made and she felt like she was being called out in public, which she was not.

Moderating a message board is a very difficult job, especially as they grow from a small board to a larger more active board. Online communications can often misrepresent the original intent of the poster. All forums get growing pains, and sometimes personalities clash, but the job of a moderator and community manager is to try and keep everything on an even keel while maintaining the values and rules of the forums. Some websites have an "anything goes" policy, others take a more "my way or the highway" stance on their forums. Walt Disney World for Grown-ups does the best we can to keep in the middle ground.

The other moderators and I try very had to keep an eye on things and manage the conversations when we feel that they are running off the track, however we're not the thought police, and the three of us can't see what's being said in private. That means that if someone doesn't tell us that there's a problem until they are ready to walk out the door - we just don't know. We try our best to keep each other advised when we hear rumblings or see trouble brewing, most things we can handle. Sometimes we have to bring in Brand & Admin for a more official presence and a deeper look at what happened - people have been asked to leave in the past, and it could happen in the future as well. We hope that doesn't happen though.

mickey The other thing to remember about Disney Message Boards is that they have a somewhat transient nature, which means that friends that drop off after their last vacations frequently come back again when they start planning another! I love it when old friends pop back in and let us know that they've started planning another great adventure. muchlove
