I know some of you have mentioned hiking periodically. I think Millie was going to do some hiking in Seattle? I was just curious how many of you do any periodic hiking or camping? We've started doing some hiking around here and I'm kind of enjoying it.
Who's a Hiker?
We love going for hikes now and then. Would love some trail suggestions. Does anyone know any good hikes around Orlando?
Check the Florida Trail Association website. I have a friend who is very active with them, and she's on a hike just about every weekend. Seems like they have something for everyone.

We're big hikers, actually. Some of my favorite hikes have been in the Adirondack mountains, though -- SO beautiful.

I'll second that thought...I haven't done much hiking in the Adirondacks but I did go on a great canoe trip years ago. We canoed the length of Long Lake, easy going on the way, really tough against the wind on the way back!!

You seem to get a lot of ourdoorsy stuff in. Is that mainly when you travel or do you do all that stuff at home too?
We like to hike and be outdoorsy in general, but have a hard time finding the time.

I bet you do -- especially with your work schedules! LIFL -- how long until you go to Disney?

I love hiking in the Adirondacks -- haven't ever done a REALLY high mtn, however. I stick with the 5-hour hikes instead of the all-day ones.
Donna and I are big-time tent campers. We try and go at least once every 8 weeks or so. When we go, its usually to a state park. We take our bikes to ride around and meet other campers. We take our 12 foot jon boat and get a little fishing in. And most of our state parks have nature trails to walk on. And we enjoy our morning coffee walking around...seeing if anybody else is up as early as we are...

Mike&Donna could I be so bold as to ask what state those parks are in? If you
prefer your privacy I totally understand. The main reason I am asking is because of a trip we recently took to a place in upstate western NY called Letchwerth state park whic was the most scenic and beautiful park I have ever seen and I was wondering if you have ever heard of it.
At the end of the game, pawns and kings go back into the same box.
Donna and I are in the beautiful state of Georgia. We do most of our trips here because on the way to or from most of our state parks, there is something to see or do...and some of the state parks are close to some wonderful sights.
I have never heard Letchwerth. But I think any state park is worth a trip. They are a state's gift to its residents.

Did you guys see that Ken Burns documentary on the National Parks on PBS? It was really interesting.
We saw parts of it...I have a feeling it's going to be one of those PBS shows that gets a constant rerun...

@Vettelover Lechworth State Park is a place I've always wanted to visit! I wonder if MillieHubbard has been there -- she's in western NY, right?
@MikeandDonna That sounds like a fantastic thing to do every couple of months. How long are you trips usually?
We try to go every 8 weeks or so and usually go for 3 days...Fri-Sun. Thats enough time to unwind a little bit and make it easier to go back to work.

What a great idea. Doesn't it make such a huge difference to simply get away for a while -- even two or three days? It "shakes you up" to change your surroundings and thought patterns every once in a while.
