Yeah...I don't buy it..

I just saw that Disney is saying that Tangled is going to be the last Disney "fairy-tale".

I call Bull Junk.

Wasn't Home on the Range (or whatever..that one with Roseanne) supposed to be the last animation movie?

I think that's something convenient to say until they can think of another fairy tale to do.

I hope you're right! I mean seriously...isn't there room at the table for all genres? If they're well-made, people see them, period. Stop buying into stereotypes already. We love fairy tales AND Pirates AND Pooh AND Cars - because we love Disney. And where was this reasoning that we don't make fairy tales because boys don't see them when the company was cleaning up from Snow White, clean through to the "modern era" of Little Mermaid, BatB, etc?

I think they probably have enough princesses to make tons of merchandise. They'll make another one if little girls get tired of the ones they have now.

As the mother of a princess lover (um, k, and a princess lover myself) I'd say it's less about the girls getting tired of the princesses that are available, and more about them just outgrowing them. After all, some of those princesses (Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty) look REALLY GOOD for their age!

But I guess I'm not necessarily clamoring for more fairytales...I just don't want Disney to pass over a good storytelling opportunity because they're going out of their way NOT to do fairytales any more. Make sense? After all, successful stories - fairytales or otherwise - aren't just about the story at hand; they're about the underlying themes - i.e. believing in your dreams, triumph of good over evil, etc etc. It's what keeps the grown ups and kids engaged at the same time...in other words, it's what make the Disney World go around Smile

My thing is..why make a big to do about it?

Because let's face it..Disney WILL do another fairy tale again some day because chances are the Disney company will out live us all.

It just doesn't make sense to me to slam the book shut..to say "Yeah, this will be our last fairy tale for awhile..we want to concentrate on some other areas" just makes much more sense than the proclamation of saying they'll never do another one again.

There's only so many times you can cry wolf to get people to see your film. Disney knows what it does well; why would it pull this weird marketing stuff?
