Saturday, Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek was thrilled to announce a sweeping line-up of exciting plans coming to Walt Disney World in time for its 50th Anniversary. One of the exciting new additions is a Disney Vacation Club property called the Disney Riviera Resort.
The Riviera Resort will house approximately 300 DVC units covering a variety of accommodation types for families of all sizes. The concept art for the resort depicts an elegant luxury tower with plenty of windows and balconies. This new Disney Vacation Club resort experience will be the 15th property in DVC's portfolio, and has an estimated opening date of Fall 2019.
Chapek said. "Our Vacation Club Members are among our most loyal fans, and we think that they will love what we have planned, especially the rooftop restaurant that will offer unbelievable views of nighttime spectaculars at both Epcot and Hollywood Studios."
For those that were paying attention Disney Skyliner (the fantastic new Gondola transportation system) was also announced during the DVC portion of the Parks & Resorts presentation. The Skyliner was a labor of love by its Imagineers who stayed on point to make their dreams come true. The aerial transportation system will connect Disney's Riviera, Disney's Art of Animation, Pop Century and Caribbean Beach resorts with Disney's Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway at Epcot.
We don't really have any specifics about this new resort yet but the word Riviera is of Italian origin and literally means "coastline," there are many famous rivieras throughout the world. With its proximity to Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort it could draw inspiration from Riviera Maya on the Caribbean coast on the Yucatan peninsula. However - the building in the concept art shows some architectural similarities to the posh Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo in the French Riviera. To find out more about the newest Disney Vacation Club property, we'll just have to stay tuned for official details.
