Wow that's a pretty big room! i think I would still need the verandah. I wish they did tours of the ships so I could try and go onto one to see if it freaks me out. Although, I'm still uncomfortable being on water regardless and I'd worry about weather/storms. I might be hopeless

you aren't hopeless. I'll post some pictures of the main decks and atriums. I have a video of the verandah cabin but It's not in the format for this webpage.
pic #1 is pirate night. As you can see these ships are not small. I'd say about 2000 people are on decks 11 & 12 for this party.
#2 Is the Atrium of the Fantasy. It's 3 stories high, the movie theater and WD theater are also three stories high. It's not a small fishing boat by any means
#3 This is the Fantasy docked in Cozumel next to a 3 mast Coast Guard clipper ship, The Fantasy andDream are huge. The Wonder and Magic or only slightly smaller.
Other than booking a 3 night cruise to see how you'd like it. I'm not sure how you could try it out. There are plenty of webpages dedicated to disney ships, which will give you and idea of size.

If it helps spook, I had all of the same worries as you do before our trip, but I knew it was something hubby wanted to do so I booked us a 3 night cruise. In that 3 night cruise I don't think we made it round 1 third of the ship, it's vast! The room I was expecting to feel cramped and it didn't at all, don't get me wrong I could see it feeling a bit small for 4 people in the room but for 2 of us, it was huge! You soon forget that you are out on water, there's so much to distract yourself with right from the word go.

My mom DOES NOT LIKE WATER at all!!! But, she has been on a few cruises. I'm not sure what she does or thinks to block it all out. She is going with us in February so maybe while we are on the ship I will ask her. Don't want to freak her out before hand, I guess I would rather do it ON the ship LOL Giving my mom a hard time is my part time job!
This will be our first time on a Disney ship so I really can't comment too much about them. The ones I have been on in the past are very spacious and most have an "open" feel to them. There are also "other" lines that do cruises to nowhere and are just one night. That would easy you in also. Then a 3 night. Then a 4, then a 7..... Wait, What?? Give it a try!

My husband and I prefer cruises to parks because our ideal vacation is relaxing. I LOVE a beach vacation and to be on a private island is amazing! We like the rotational dining without having to make sure we make or ADRs at 180 days. We both enjoy the parks : Epcot and Animal Kingdom especially. But cruises are just more enjoyable to us. My husband had a stroke so we enjoy not having to rush from park to park or having people push their strollers or scooters around you because you are not moving fast enough for them. The Disney cruises is more our style now. When the kids were younger and pre stroke days, we would prefer the parks for the rides to get the kids good and tired.
