Trader Sam's Grog Grotto

Who has been to Trader Sam's Grog Grotto? When is the best time to go? Is it better to sit inside or outside? Can you see the fireworks from the patio, or is the pool volcano in the way? Do they have live music every night or just on the weekends?

Well you have to usually wait to get in, they will give you a pager if its busy. There are no windows inside and if you sit outside you won't see the special effects inside.

This is the view from Trader Sam's Patio.

They have had live music every night we were there, except when it was raining or cold.

I can't wait to try this particular spot when we go in September. Has anyone tried any of the specialty drinks?

We were there in December and it was awesome! We got there around 11:15 and were told there would be a 30 min wait but we got in within about 15 or 20 min so we still had a short amount of time before they closed at 12. I had the Polynesian Pearl and the Shrunken Zombie Head. Bother were strong and delicious! I would recommend getting there earlier so that you can enjoy the food (I didn't ask but they didn't appear to be serving anymore as no one around us had any and I felt bad ordering so close to closing time) and be able to spend more time in there. We were there on a Friday night and there was no live music inside, but that might just have been because of the time. We didn't go out on the patio so I can't speak to that.

If you've never been, then I would recommend you sit inside to enjoy the show and what happens when certain drinks are ordered. If you're not interested in that and are on a tight schedule, I would recommend you sit on the patio.

We've ordered quite a few of the souvenir glass drinks (Polynesian Pearl, Nautilus, HippopotoMai-Tai, Shrunken Zombie Head and Krakatoa Punch) and they are all very good, but my favourite was the Nautilus. I'm not a huge rum drinker and I found it masked the rum taste the best. laugh

For eats, we've had the Kalua Pork Tacos and the Pan-fries Dumplings (I think). It was all good.

I like a Mai-Tai, and I think the glass is pretty adorable. I think that one may be on my list.

I had a hard time remembering what we had too after that Nautilus!

Table for two are nice, but if you have a chance to sit at the bar or at the high top table with stools you could be in for anh added surprise in a Grotto full of surprises! Drinks are very good!

Has anyone heard if you can buy the mugs only? My husband really wants the Nautilus but its a drink for 2 people. He doesn't drink alcohol and I don't think I could finish that and another drink of my choice.

Good question on if they only sell the mugs. If you order a mug they give you a clean one, not the one you drank out of so there are given separately, but not sure if sold separately.

I didn't know about this and now we are definitely adding it to our list of upcoming activities! So fun!

No you can not just buy the souvenir mugs, although I do not know why. They don't give you the one you drink out of anyway. I have heard several people tried to buy one and they would not sell them. That doesn't mean it couldn't happen though. Sometimes you just have to talk to the right people. Oh you could drink it. Goes down like water!
