Wicked as a Disney Animated Musical

This was posted on Entertainment Weekly and it looks amazing!

Seriously- Schwartz has done some of the music for our favorite Disney musicals. I never thought about Wicked as an animated movie but these storyboards show that it would work amazingly well. And you could still get Idina and Kristin to be the leads.

I want to see this movie!

Interesting. Thanks for sharing, Caitie. If anyone does do it, of course, I hope it's Disney for sure. I'm just so biased...I just think they do the most clever work.

I love the Storyboards and the concept. I'd love to see the animation and the songs, but I'm not sure I want to see the plot of Wicked "Disneyfied." I think a lot of important subtext could be lost in their desire to "clean it up."

I believe the storyboards were just done by some artist--no plans for Disney to do this... currently Universal owns the movie rights for the MUSICAL (ie, movie version of broadway play)..but.. ABC is working with Selma Hayek to put out a miniseries based on the BOOK..(non-musical version).

Even though I'm a huge Disney fan, I've got to say.. I dont think this would translate well to a "Disney" animated movie. I just want to see it on film though, much like Rent and Phantom of the Opera. But.. not animated. I dunno.. thats just me though. lol

You don't think there's a chance that they'd do it as a more adult version? Not "kid-ify" it at all? I suppose that would be a big gamble.

The book "Wicked" is pretty racy - definitely not kid stuff. The musical already watered down a lot of that, I would think a Disney version would take it too far.

Besides, animating already existing musicals isn't the best idea. The one example I know of, The King and I, was HORRIBLE. Granted, that wasn't Disney, but WOW that was a bad movie!

This was exactly what I was going to say. The musical already watered down the book enough, we don't need Disney doing it more. That said the video is awesome. Maybe rogue Disney animators could do a version with a bit more "bite" than a Disney movie?
