D23 News: Disney Reveals Model for ‘Star Wars’ Lands

The 2017 D23 Expo kicked off Friday, and at a special preview on Thursday night Disney Parks and Resorts chairman Bob Chapek unveiled the model for the Star Wars-themed lands at Disneyland and Disney's Hollywood Studios.

During the presentation Chapek said, "To say we are excited for the Star Wars-themed lands to open in 2019 is an understatement. All along, we have said this will be game-changing, and through the model we can begin to see how truly epic these immersive new worlds will be."

More information about the project will be shared at the Parks and Resorts Panel during the D23 Expo.

The Star Wars lands will feature two attractions: one where guests get behind the controls of the Millennium Falcon, and another that puts guests in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

The new lands are the biggest single-themed land attraction at either park, coming in at 14 acres.

A new trackless ride vehicle was also revealed Friday at the D23 Expo. The new ride vehicle is for the "Battle Escape" attraction.
