Disney is hosting a free Veterans Institute this fall as part of its ongoing Heroes Work Here initiative to hire, train, and support military veterans. The Institute's goal is to inspire other companies to employ servicemen and women who are transitioning to the private sector.
The day-long event is planned for November 14, at Disney's Yacht Club Resort and is co-sponsored by Heroes Work Here and the Disney Institute.
During the Veterans Institute attendees will get an inside look at Heroes Work Here and will have a chance to hear from keynote speakers including Robert Iger, Chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company; Royse Cloud, Senior Advisor on Veteran Employment, Department of Veterans Affiars; Dr. Susan S. Kelley, Director, Transition to Veteran Program Office, Department of Defense; Rich Morales, Colonel, U.S. Army and Executive Director, Joining Forces; and Teresa Gerton, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Department of Labor.
"We're incredibly proud of the veterans who work at Disney, and we fully recognize the value, experience and skills they bring to our company," said Robert A. Iger, Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company. "Our Heroes Work Here program not only helps us find and hire highly qualified veterans, it also supports veterans and their families as they transition out of the military. We're happy to share what we've learned with other organizations so that more of these modern-day heroes have the tools and opportunities to build meaningful careers in the private sector."
Disney launched the Heroes Work Here initiative in March 2012 with a commitment to hire more than 1,000 veterans by 2015. Having already surpassed that goal, Disney announced in March of this year that is has increased its hiring goal to create opportunities for 1,000 more former service members in the next two years.
