Disney Cocktails: The Lapu Lapu

One of the most beloved drinks at Disney's Polynesian Resort has got to be the distinct and delicious Lapu Lapu. Served up in a pineapple, this concoction of rum and juice is a classic Disney must do on any monorail crawl. Made by combining Myers's Original Dark Rum with Tropical Fruit Juices and topped off with Bacardi 151 Rum the Lapu Lapu is a fun island delight, but not for the faint of heart.

Did you know that you can order a virgin Lapu Lapu too? Well you can! At a recent event I attended at the Kona Cafe the under 21 crowd that had joined me was able to order this fun drink without the alcohol. The realization that they could do so meant that soon our table was quickly filled a half a dozen or more pineapples. To keep track of which drink is which, the Disney bar tenders cut off a section of the side of the pineapple to mark them as virgin.

Once all the lovely liquid goodness is gone from it's pineapple home you may wonder, what next? Why not give a go at dismantling your Lapu Lapu to get to the sweet pineapple flesh that's been left inside. We find the best place to start is by cutting it in quarters from the top down using a knife. There's actually quite a bit of pineapple remaining and it's just waiting for you to enjoy it.

The Lapu Lapu is a grown up cocktail served only at Disney's Polynesian Resort Tambu Lounge, Kona Cafe' and 'Ohana. Keep it in mind the next time you're looking for a fun cocktail with quite the kick (this may be where all the rum has gone). Are you a Lapu Lapu fan? Leave comment and let us know!

Oh, my. I would either have to order this virgin or share it with hubby. I don't think I could handle that much rum in one drink.

I tried my first one last month. It is definitely strong! It lead to a tipsy wander around the Grand Floridian as I sobered up enough to go back to the park.

Does anyone have a recipe for this drink. I get it every time I go to WDW, but often find myself craving it when I'm back home in California.

My wife and I had one at Kona and loved it. Going to Ohana in Oct and it's good to know we can get a virgin one for my daughter so she doesn't get jealous.

"quite the kick"?....yeah OK. All of the cocktails at Tambu are fru-fru drinks...some are tasty, but stiff?....no.
