Disney Expects Sales of Infinity Game to Reach $1 Billion after 2.0 Version Launches this Fall

Less than a year after debuting, Disney Infinity is proving to be a huge hit for The Walt Disney Company.

Sales of the game are expected to reach $1 billion according to statements from Jimmy Pitaro, president of the company's interactive division.

The interactive video game allows players to mix and match Disney characters and the 2.0 version will launch this fall featuring the Marvel Super Heroes.

At the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Disney Interactive provided fans an in-depth look at Disney Infinity: Marvel Superheroes (2.0 Edition).

This super hero-themed sequel will feature The Avengers, in addition to a Spider-Man Play set. The 2.0 version of Infinity also includes new gameplay features like specialized character controls and skill-tree leveling.

Other Infinity figures debuting this year include Maleficent and Princess Merida.

In May Disney reported $550 million in retail sales for Infinity, and sales of the game helped the company post a $14 million profit for the interactive division in the last fiscal quarter.
