Disney Has A New Monorail Voice

The next time you hop aboard one of the monorails around Walt Disney World, listen up. Recently, Disney elected to change the voice of the narrator on its monorail trains.

Joe Hursh, an Orlando-based voice actor, had been the voice greeting guests with the line: "Welcome aboard the Walt Disney World express monorail, your highway in the sky to the Magic Kingdom." Now, those words are uttered by Tom Kane, a voice actor known for his role as Yoda on the animated series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars." Kane also has taken over the announcing of the landmarks and tidbits about the parks that is heard during the monorail ride.

There is one voice upon the monorails that hasn't changed. The lines, "Please stand clear of the doors. Por favor mantenganse alejado de las puertas," belong to Jack Wagner. Wagner, who died in 1995, provided the voice for the monorail when it opened back in 1971.

Guests can still catch the voice of Hursh on board the Disney bus system.

Walt Disney World's monorail system has twelve trains that circulate between Epcot, the Magic Kingdom and certain Disney resorts. Disney estimates the trains carry some 50,000 guests each day.

Why did they feel the need to change it? It's so iconic. Not feeling very warm and fuzzy over this....

I think I'm okay with a new voice, honestly I'm not sure that I'll noticed it's changed.
