Disney Testing New Fastpass System at Magic Kingdom

Right now at Magic Kingdom, Disney is currently testing out a new way with a guest favorite. Now through May 15, Disney is trialing a new Fastpass system on certain rides and attractions throughout Magic Kingdom.

In the current system, guests obtain Fastpass tickets at the ride or attraction of their choice and return at the time stated upon the ticket to bypass a long wait time. How does the new Fastpass differ? The new system will have guests obtaining Fastpass tickets at home - before they even set foot in the park!

At this time, Disney has pre-selected and invited guests to particpate in this trial phase of the new system. Once these guests make it to Magic Kingdom, they'll be given a card to wave in front of special new scanners set up at various rides and attractions throughout the park; this will confirm the guest's arrival at the ride. Right now, during the testing phase, guests are pretty much locked in to the times and days and attractions they've selected; they won't be able to change them once their selection has been made.

There's not a whole lot of information out there on which rides will be part of the new Fastpass trial. It's rumored The Haunted Mansion may be part of the test. Also a rumor? That the new Fastpass system, if and when it goes live, will enable guests to access Fastpasses for many more rides and attractions than currently participate in the current system.

The new Fastpass trial is set to run at the Magic Kingdom from May 1 through May 15. We'll keep an eye out for any more news regarding this exciting new system change.

How exciting! I'm looking forward to the new system coming, we don't use Fast Pass very often and I think I may actually take advantage of it when I can reserve them online.

I have to admit, I'm a bit skeptical about this whole thing. I have gotten away from meticulously planning my trip and now like to do things spur of the moment. I'm concerned this will make standby lines even longer. We will just have to wait and see :)

I will definitely like this - we have not been on Peter Pans Flight for years - I believe that is the longest wait for a ride. Usually I collect everyones tickets and head to Toy Story for the fast passes, however since we are there 1 - 2 times per year we do not arrive at breaking dawn - we sleep in a little, have breakfast then head to the park, but we stay til closing - so needless to say sometimes the fastpasses are gone for the day.

It is exciting! Hopefully it will be another great way to save time waiting in lines at the Disney Theme Parks.
