Trader Sam's Grog Grotto Coming To The Re-imagined Disney's Polynesian Village Resort

It's well known that I love to kick off my Disney vacations with an opening night monorail crawl that beginning at the Polynesian's Tambu Tambu Lounge for a legendary Lapu Lapu. Disney announced last week that soon I'll have a brand new place to kick off my trip and celebrate my love of all things tiki! There's not much actual information that has been released about Trader Sam's Grog Grotto at this time, but Disney has shared a little bit of concept art.

Let's take a little peek at Trader Sam's on the West Coast ...

At Disneyland's version of the Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar they tell the story of our pal Sam "the head salesman of the jungle who's always ready to trade you two of his heads for one of yours!" Sound familiar? Sam's got character to spare and in his adventures cruising the jungle he's collected some very interesting pieces of art and artifacts that are all on display in the enchanted tiki bar. Sam's unusual collection combines the fun of the Enchanted Tiki Room, Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean and even the Adventurers Club with the magic special effects. In fact you're never quite sure what will happen next! Tikis chant, volcanoes erupt, seating mysteriously changes, and some cocktails even come with their own island of fire.

The skillful mixologists at Trader Sam's offer a delightful array of signature cocktails and mocktails like the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Rum, Schweitzer Falls, Skipper Sipper, and the Shunken Zombie Head. Each of the drinks has a fun story to go along with it, and through some clever Imagineering magic what you order may even have an effect on the environment around you.

However the goodies don't stop there and the Disneyland Sam's also has some fantastic food. The full menu includes a Kalua Pork Flatbread my kids went crazy for. There's also a pu pu platter with Tamarind-glazed Island Pork 'Wings,' Sweet and Spicy Asian Wings, Panko-Crusted Chinese Long Beans, and Green Papaya Slaw. Everything we ate at Sam's was a win. I really hope that they bring the Papaya slaw because it is fantastic!

In Disneyland Trader Sam's not only has an exciting indoor venue, but the open air terrace is a comfortable delight to relax on late into the evening as you lounge under the tiki lanterns sipping cocktails and enjoying a warm tropical breeze.

Hi Marc - We do not have a projected opening date at this point. However construction is underway across the resort with a wide variety of refurbishments and additions there is a goal of completion by late 2015/early 2016.
