New D-Tech Me Experience Debuts During Star Wars Weekends

Last year's D-Tech Me introduced the Carbon Freeze Me experience, inspired by that fateful scene in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back when Han Solo is frozen in carbonite. This year guests can choose from the "cast yourself in carbonite" option or choose the new Stormtrooper experience.

New Fantasyland Expansion Details

A recent D23 event shed more light onto the ongoing Fantasyland expansion at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. The creative director of the expansion, Chris Beatty of Disney Imagineering, was on hand to divulge some details.

First off, there will be a new wall to separate Cinderella's Castle from Fantasyland. The wall, which will be situated where the current Dumbo ride is, will look "old" and "like it's always been there" according to Beatty.

Disney Animator Bill Justice Passes Away

Bill Justice, a Disney animator, passed away at a Santa Monica nursing home last Thursday. He had just turned 97. Fans might not recognize his name, but undoubtedly know some of the characters he helped bring to life by animation for Disney favorites.

He began his career with Disney in 1937 and went on to work on such classics as "Fantasia" and "Bambi." In fact, he animated Thumper, a beloved "Bambi" character, as well as fan favorites Chip and Dale. The opening Mickey Mouse March for the 1950's show "The Mickey Mouse Club" is also among his animation credits.

The Prayer Flags of Anandapur at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Floating in the breeze above the heads of the tourists bustling through the park hang the colorful prayer flags of the Anandapur Township in Disney's Animal Kingdom. A beautiful touch of detailed Imagineering that comes straight from the countryside of the Himalayas. The exquisitely detailed Anandapur goes out of it's way to blur the lines of fantasy and reality, it is easy to forget you are in a Florida theme park.

Disney's Niche Story Rooms at WDW Resort Hotels

Walt Disney World is known for the exciting and detailed themes of it's Resort Hotels. They not only offer a safe and clean room to stay in close to the Parks but through the magic of Imagineering have a way of transporting you from the reality of Central Florida to exotic locals around the globe and even into the worlds of Disney Movies. Staying "on property" is a truly magical experience no matter where you stay. However, some of Disney's resorts offer special niche rooms that offer just a little bit more flair.

The Country Bear Jamboree at the Magic Kingdom

Melinda touched on it last week and I wanted to delve a little deeper into the Country Bear Jamboree in the Magic Kingdom's Frontierland. Recently reopened after having been closed for refurbishment. Disney knows that rehabs can put fans of an attraction on edge. Though it's important to keep everything in good shape, most guests want their favorites to remain the same.

Profile of an Imagineer: Roger Broggie

Roger Broggie was the first Walt Disney Imagineer. A mechanical genius who embodied the spirit of Disney Imagineering with his ability to blend creative imagination and technical knowledge, Broggie was a close friend of Walt Disney. He helped lay the groundwork for Disneyland and the other Disney parks that followed.
