Animal Kingdom vs Contemporary

I am planning my first trip back to Disney as an adult and am going with my girlfriend, just 2 adults for a week in Disney, we are pumped! We haven't been able to come to an agreement between Animal Kingdom or Contemporary. I am sure both have pro's and con's. I like the upscale feel and convenience of the Contemporary but my girlfriend likes the idea of waking up with the Savannah view at Animal Kingdom. Right now we are looking at club level at Animal Kingdom vs Tower room with Magic Kingdom view at Contemporary. I am wondering what people think is the better option as 2 adults, no kids, on an adult romantic trip!

Any feedback I would really appreciate! yay

For me its the Contemporary with a Magic Kingdom view all the way. My husband & I stayed there (no kids) last October, and it was my favorite by far. We loved being able to walk to the MK and to watch the nightly fireworks from the balcony of our room. It was totally romantic and being on the monorail was an added bonus! Here's a picture of the view from our room.

Fireworks.

Animals are nice but everyone stands outside looking at them. Not very private or romantic then

I agree with Vettelover, Animal Kingdom Lodge would be my choice.

First off, Animal Kingdom Lodge is TOTALLY upscale. So you wouldn't be losing anything there. I LOVE the concierge level and have never had anything but great experiences staying at AKL on an adults only trip. It's lush and romantic without a doubt. The pool is elegant and simply to die for. That being said, I'm not a fan of the savanna view when staying on the 5th or 6th floor. It's mostly the tops of trees.

MK view is mostly nice, but it is also a parking lot view, at the Contemporary hotel you want to be on a higher floor. One of the companions I travel with regularly is not a fan of the Contemporary at all. The fireworks out your window may be amazing but in general he feels that the hotel is noisy and over crowded. I, am not a fan of their pool, I find it a little boring.

It's a toss up, both have their pros and their cons. If you want to be in the heart of it all, go Contemporary. If you want a more secluded retreat, it's Animal Kingdom Lodge.

To Kristen's point, the best rooms at the Contemporary are from the 10th floor up. 11 is the highest you can go without being concierge level. We requested the 11th floor when we made our reservation, and it was honored. The rooms are large, have recently been updated, and the view is really good that high up!

Hi Nish & welcome How about I change it up and throw a wrench into the works and say split the difference and go with a Poly Magic Kingdon View. The highest is 3rd floor, its a monorail resort, and it's totally awesome! awesome
This was our view at the Poly in January. It's a very Magical experience.

lol, it's so funny you posted this. I'll be in AKL club level in ..22 days? wow..anyways, I was thinking to myself, what would be better than this? Like for a possible disneymoon? ( crossfingers ) And Contemporary with a MK view would pretty much top it.

I've never stayed in CR with a MK view before, but I'd imagine it would be pretty damn incredible! Kris1971's photo is what I always have in my head when I think "Magic Kingdom view".

Have fun and good luck! awesome

Thank you all for your feedback and help! I have definitely been leaning towards Contemporary but want to make the girlfriend happy and give her the Disney trip she has always wanted. She has been wanting to stay at AK for a long time but says that she has always dreamed of Contemporary as a kid. My only trip to Disney as a kid 20 years ago was at the Poly and I loved it there too but we ruled that out temporarily even though those pictures really are making me rethink that! I think the high floor seems key for the MK view at CR so I will keep that in mind and I didn't even consider the fireworks was mostly thinking the monorail and easier access to MK and Epcot...still going back and forth but your feedback has definitely been amazing, THANK YOU! I want to do this one right, it could be an extra special trip for us crossfingers

What time of the year are you planning for? I don't know for sure, but that might help some of our experts here to give you even more feedback and help you make the decision.

What an sweet thing you are doing, btw!

I prefer AKL. It's my favorite deluxe resort. But if I were to stay on the monorail line, I'd choose the Poly over the Contemporary. It's so much prettier and has a warmness to it.

Not sure why no one has suggested this but you can split your trip and stay at both resorts and you will both be happy. Just call them. This is Disney for heavens sakes, it's all about making your wishes come true. Start out at Animal Kingdom and change to Contemporary after a few days. The lovely Disney people will move your luggage. Have fun!

I pulled the trigger today and booked our 7 night trip at the Contemporary Resort Atrium Club Magic Kingdom View room. We are going the last week in September and I dug around on the web and found a special rate for travel during that time so ended up spending ballpark of what I wanted to spend but got the upgrade to club level which is awesome! I haven't told the girlfriend yet, I am going to hold off as long as I can (its more fun). So excited I am finally back at Disney for the first time since I was a kid (almost 20 years ago!) Adult trip, looking forward to it! Thank you all for your feedback and can't wait to start the planning! mickey clapping
