A couple of DVC questions for DVC'ers

So a couple of questions have popped into my little head as I am finalizing plans for our trip in a few weeks...

1. When we went for dinner at Cali Grill, Peter Pan was running around the resort, are there characters at all of the Deluxe Resorts? Or was this just some random thing we came across?

2. When I made our reservation on the DVC website, it asked if there were any special occasions... I filled out all the info for it being Joe's 40th birthday. Do they put something special in the room? If so, anyone know what?

No and no. Sorry Sad I've never seen a character around any of the wdw hotels (they used to be in the dlp hotels). I always mark if it's a special occasion and usually we get a birthday button and we did also get given a rose each when it was our anniversary but nothing in the room.

Back in the day you did get gifts in your room. (I got a cake once!) But under the current Disney austerity measures, that is now completely out of the question.

Never saw a character in the resort. Except Mrs. C- she's a character.

Pretty sure that when you saw Peter Pan it was during a Pirates & Pals Fire Works Cruise. He greets guests at the end of the cruise which departs from the dock at The Contemporary. Although we were the only adults on board without children it was great fun when we participated in May. Will definitely take our grand kids someday!

When you check in Joe will receive a celebration pin. Make sure he wears it. Lots of people, both guests and CMs will wish him a happy birthday and table service restaurants might even give him a desert cup cake with a candle. A counter service restaurant even gathered all cast members and sang happy birthday to me! silly

JMed, you just came across something random I'm sure with Peter Pan. Now regarding the Special occasions question, well yes, always fill that out, because you just never know! We have received gifts at times. We have gotten turn down service and chocolates left every night one trip, pictures and nice wooden frames another. Our friends Tom & Del got a really nice photo album left in there room with flower, and we also got a room upgrade once, so never say never. You may get the old "Celebration message" left on your room phone from a special character and you may get nothing. Don't be "expecting it" and you will not be disappointed. If you do get something, well than that's a little Disney Magic.

We spent our 25th anniversary at AKL three and a half years ago. On our departure day, we were treated to a tray of beautiful and delicious desserts at Boma during breakfast. It was a magical surprise for us.

Thanks everyone! I kinda had a feeling the PP thing was a random sighting! waiting

As far as the birthday thing goes, I don't know if I can convince him to wear the button the whole time. I mean I did and I loved it. Maybe I will wear it for him laugh

Maybe we will luck up with a little stars for his bday AND our first DVC stay!

yay as usual you all rock!!!!

Wear the buttons. You never know what can happen. I was wearing my birthday pin and a cm wished me HB and we started chatting and next thing you know we were at the Illuminations Dessert Party complements of the Mouse.

My wife had the B'Day button 2 years ago. That netted a little Disney magic in the form of a free dole whip at Captain Cooks, a free "topper" on a margarita in Epcot, and a few other little goodies along the way! Let the magic happen! yay clapping yay clapping

We're not big fans of actually wearing the pins, but we always put it on the strap of our back pack so it can be seen. Maybe he can do something like that?

Peter can sometimes be seen at the Contemporary because of the Pirates & Pals Fireworks cruise that launches from there. So it's not quite random, but it's not something that is standard at the Deluxe resorts unless that are in hurricane protocol.

Sometimes. Like many "special, magical" treats that happen at Disney the experiences can be pretty random. We have received birthday birthday chocolates, cards signed by Mickey, and special towel art that looked like a cake. Then there have been other birthdays that we didn't get anything.

The only time I've seen characters in the deluxe resorts is over the Christmas holiday period.
