Harry Potter 7 Discussion - SPOILERS -

Ok... I have a feeling this will be needed after Chip said something. Not sure if this would be the correct place, but yeah...

What did you guys think of it? I liked it. Had my issues, but ill go into them a little later. Let some others either praise or vent about it! lol

I really liked it...even though all of the details weren't exactly the same as the book. But I think there were definitely a few scenes that were amazing! Like Snape's memories and when Molly Weasley took down Bellatrix (probably the scene I was most looking forward to in the movie wink )

I really liked it. There were times that I found myself thinking "Oh! They better include -------- in there." "I really hope they put -------- part in there." Every detail I thought about they included! It might not have been exact to the book but they got most of the important details in. I loved how they did Snape's memories. I don't like how the deaths of some character after the big battle felt kind of just glossed over. I was super excited they kept Mrs. Weasley's line to Bellatrix right.

All in all I really liked it. I want to see it again in case I pick up on details I might have missed the first time, haha.

See... I havent read any of the books, so this very well could be a movie side error or maybe not an error but maybe they could had done it differently... but I had an issue with the reveal of Harry having to die because he was the initial holocrux or however you spell the word... lol. I saw that coming ever since they started talking about they needed to destroy them all. I dont know if it was supposed to be an OMG reveal, but the way they revealed it with Snape... I figured as much. I also knew he had that 3rd part of the Deathly Hallows... dont remember the exact name of it, but the rebirth stone. So I knew he had to die to kill the holocrux and would come back to life because of the stone. I guess the way Part 1 and Part 2 dealt with that to me was an issue. Granted... it was minor... was just hoping for this big OMG moment like the other Potter movies. Especially with 3 and the time issue, and 4 with Voldie coming back to life.

I haven't seen the movie yet, and it's been a pretty long time since I read the book, but actually, it sounds like the movie made the whole Harry as horcrux and the stone thing more clear than the book did. As I said in the other post, I really want to see Part 1 first (DH got it on Netflix, watched, and returned before I saw it. Guess he'll have to deal with me ordering it again Smile Maybe I'll re-read the book in the meantime.

See... thats what I was thinking. I mean every time he held his head (his scar) it was ment Voldermort did something or advanced. Thats been that way since day one. So like I said... when they started going after them and they had to be destroyed by certain special things... I knew Voldermort (I have to be botching that name... lol) had to kill Harry.

It's pretty much right to the books. It might be different for some people but, throughout reading the books, Andy and I had the feeling that Harry would be the last one, so it was kind of like an "I knew it" moment for us. Having read all the books (and being just a tad bit obsessed, haha) I guess I see the movies different cause I already knew what was going to happen anyway.

GAHAGAHSGSAJ!! Posting this thread is like putting a big huge chocolate cake in front of my face and saying "Don't touch this cake Bella or the world will explode!"

Luckily, as of now..I haven't eaten any cake so to speak.

Just needed to share that--and I'll be back on Thursday to share my thoughts.

Oh, I agree...it's just that whole scene in the book at the end, with Harry and Dumbledore...I mean I got it, but I didn't. I'll look forward to how they visualize all of that. I read the books first, too. I started reading them after Goblet of Fire came out, so it was fun, for the first few, anyway, to be able to read them one after another, without waiting for the next installment.

Saw it last night, I think it was perfect except the terrible 19 years later part. Gawd the makeup and what not just made it look like a farce.

I agree that because I've read the books I enjoy seeing how they interpret them on screen. And Lizzy that scene with Harry and Dumbledore had me confused the first time I read it too...I think I finally got it the second time I read it and seeing it onscreen made it that much clearer Smile

Which one are you talking about? The one when Harry died and they are at the train station?

Yeah, that's the one. I think they did it real well. I was taken out of the scene for a minute cause, when they show the feeble Voldemort, someone in the audience started laughing..

Ok... for a person who hasnt read the books (And I really dont plan to...) that part written out was tough to figure out? Just trying to figure it all out for myself the differences between the books and the movies.

Umm for me I think part of it is that there is just so much more detail and explanation and I tend to scan instead of read when I get tired (which I was when I read that part at like 1am) so I probably just missed it a little bit. I'll try and look back over that part and remember specifically what didn't click the first time Smile

I saw it last night..I thought it was amazing! I have to agree..I would have been bawling my eyeballs out if Draco hadn't looked SO ridiculous. That was a little comic relief.

The other comic relief? A sweet older couple was sitting next to us (one space in between). It was obvious the woman was a huge fan and the husband was oblivious. He whispered the entire movie..very softly..and if he wasn't SO adorable I would have been angry. But seriously...I am not telling a lie here. About five minutes into the movie he turns to his wife and whispers........"Is that boy some sort of magician?" I died.

Like I said, it's been a while since I've read them. I got it, the train station scene, I mean, including that the "thing" was Voldemort, but it was more like, the riddle "for neith can live while the other survives" and why Harry's potential death was necessary. I can't remember if Harry as a Horcrux was spelled out in the book. Anyone?

I don't think it was spelled out as clearly in the book as it was in the movie Smile There is just so much more in the books and they don't lay everything out as much as they do in the movies.

I hate saying it... but I'm probably going to have to read the books now... and I'm not a big fan of reading. Don't get to do it much or have the time to do it... but now I just wanna know... lol

Umm for me I think part of it is that there is just so much more detail and explanation and I tend to scan instead of read when I get tired (which I was when I read that part at like 1am) so I probably just missed it a little bit. I'll try and look back over that part and remember specifically what didn't click the first time Smile

Don't get to do it much or have the time to do it... but now I just wanna know... lol

You should! The first few are quick reads and then start to get longer and more in depth...but they are so good! I would check your library to see if they had them because the last few were quite expensive Smile

Actually... I think I have them all on my iPad... just have to check. If not they are on my computer in digital form. Got them for my son.

-Edit-

Yup! Got all 7!

Mase - if you don't want to actually read them you can always try the books on tape. My friend did that with HP and said they were done really well.

I think my iPad can actually read it to me. I could be wrong... but I thought that was one of the updates it had lately? Idk... lol. Its not the listening or reading. Its the distractions in the house with 2 kids that makes it tough for me... lol

Better late than never - I FINALLY saw the movie, and wow, it was great! It definitely spelled things out more clearly than the book. But it didn't feel gratuitous or dumbed down at all. Just clearer.

And in reviewing this thread, I see we totally glossed over the fact that Robyn's hubby knows Draco! That's pretty cool!
