My parents' trip report!

I thought I would post a quick-one post-recap trip report for my parents' trip!

Who: Mom (56), Dad (62), Brother (29), and a couple my parents' are friends with. (A little older than my mom and dad) This was also a first visit for the couple tagging along.

When: September 7th - 13th

Where: Coronado Springs, standard room

ADR's: Kona Cafe (Dinner), Teppan Edo, Garden Grill, Via Napoli, 50's Prime Time

My parents' loved the resort. They have now vacationed at every moderate and claim to love this one the best. They stated the resort feels much like a deluxe, but without the price tag. My mom loved the sliding doors that separate the bathroom area from the bedroom. They did state the actual resort seemed full and almost every bus they rode was standing room only, to/from parks. They said this will be their "go-to" moderate.

ADR's were a hit and miss. The worst meal was Kona Cafe. It was loud and the food was just mediocre. We had such a great breakfast there last year, so this was disappointing to hear. They were able to watch wishes from the Poly beach and had excellent seats. The best restaurant was Teppan Edo. They raved about this restaurant. They stated the atmosphere was wonderful and the food was incredible. Via Napoli was a disappointment. It was not as great as Tutto Italia and my mom said it was extremely loud inside. Their lasagna was just "okay". Garden Grill was a hit and the characters were wonderful. The food was great and it was a wonderful experience overall. 50's Prime Time food is always great, but their server was pretty bad. He did not play along well. They also had reservations at 7:00PM and arrived at 6:50PM. They were not seated until 7:50PM and they missed Fantasmic. That was a bummer. They also said this was the last trip they would make ADR's because it messed up their evening and felt rushed. I just told them they did not plan well. wink

Of course they visited all parks and thoroughly enjoyed it. The parks were not empty, but not crowded like last August either. They all had a great time and are looking forward to the next trip! mickey

Nice info on Coronado Springs. I need to go see it on one of my longer jaunts. And I totally agree on Teppan Edo....I love that place. Go every trip.

Great to hear your parents had a good trip Eeyore.

Interesting to hear the comments about the loudness in the restaurants. I understand completely what they mean. I think when we go back, I'm going to try Teppan Edo. We've always done Tokyo Dining (which we love) but I would like to try the other.

I'm super surprised to hear about their disappointing experience at Kona! I've never heard a bad review for there and we loved it last year! Thanks for the update on their trip!

Sorry to hear they had bad experiences at those restaurants I think then out of those, Kona and Via Napoli would be our favorites, never had a bad meal at either and we eat at Kona every trip at least once for breakfast and dinner each. Teppan Edo is more of a show dinner to me. Food is okay. The restaurants are loud, that's just a fact about pretty much every one.

I posted this in another thread (I can't remember which one) but we had a terrible meal at Kona. I will give more info than last time. We ordered a bottle of wine, appetizers and entrees. In the UK, there is a gap between appetizers and main course. We had noticed in Disney that they would slam our entree on the table even of we had not finished the appetizer so we started asking for a ten minute gap between appetizer and main. All the restaurants we asked did this with no problem. We tipped 20% because we were pleased that they accommodated this request. Anyway we made this request in Kona. We had not even eaten one mouthful of our appetizers when our entrees were slammed on the table, so I sent them back. We spent about 20 mins eating our appetisers and drinking our wine. When we were ready for our entrees, they brought back the same food that they had removed. The entrees were stone cold and as they were stir-fry noodles congealed and completely inedible. We didn't eat them, paid for the wine and appetisers and left.

Kona does have WONDERFUL breakfast, but they said the food was just ok. It was not terrible, but they were not impressed. The server was not great either so I am sure that makes the experience worse!

A lot of restaurants are loud that have that large open concept, BOG, San Angel Inn, Via Napoli, Kouzinna (sp?) , etc...

Sorry to hear about your Kona experience Miss Mikki. We were there twice on our recent trip - once for breakfast and then lunch a few days later. We always enjoy the breakfast, but lunch was even better. But the server does make a huge difference and we were lucky both times.

glad they had a good trip overall, I do agree with them on the noise level at via Napoli it is very loud but we liked the food, and also agree that teppan edo is excellent, but I will say and I know its Disney and you will pay a little more but at the Japanese steak houses around here we get so much more included in the meal and it is just as good we probably wont go back there too often. We had a disappointing server at 50ies prime last time also which is disappointing because for us we go for the atmosphere as well as the food.
