Thanksgiving, USA

Well I've been working like crazy today, prepping our Thanksgiving Dinner for tomorrow! Woot!

It's just our household, no guests this year, but still that makes for 6 people all wanting their favorite part of the "traditional" dinner. 3 of the 6 of us have to work, including me. None the less I also got saddled with the big dinner duties.

Last night I made cranberry preserves, today it was green beans and a bread dressing, tonight will be pies. Cornbread, sweet potatoes, and pickles were bought. I pick up our smoked turkey up this afternoon. I've got myself set up so that at most I'll just have to reheat things or pop them in the microwave tomorrow.

I've got some Disney nods. The bread for the dressing is from Le Brea Bakery (can be found at DLR) and the wine being served is Rosa Regale (Italy Pavilion). No Mickey shaped anything this year though.

Are you busy getting ready? Are you cooking for your family or do you get to be a guest?

One thing I am *VERY* thankful for is that I don't have to travel anywhere this year, so no traffic jams or flight delays.

We have three stops to make tomorrow... Don't love going that many places but when your married and have all your family around that's what happens. I'm making cheesy hashbrown casserole and apple cinnamon bread and Mase is making his famous cherry tarts

Just the 2 of us and we're staying put in San Francisco. We've got an 11 1/2 pound turkey all set to go, and then the standards - mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing (Joe makes Stuffin' Muffins!), home-made rolls and a marbled pumpkin-ginger tart for dessert!

I am always envious of Thanksgiving as I adore the different types of food you have that you just don't get in the UK. Love the sound of Joe's stuffin muffins biggrin

Happy Thanksgiving to all my new friends across the pond. May you all spend it where you want to be x

I'll be hosting tomorrow. A total of 10 people in all. A 14lb bird and an extra 3lb breast just so we can all have leftovers for turkey sandwiches (which is my favorite part of Thanksgiving). Yum!

Going to my brothers. Spent the day making Pecan, and 2 pumpkin pies. Just finished making chocolate cream pie. I'll wait till the weekend before Christmas ( which I'm working) to make my apple pie.

It's just the two of us for Thanksgiving this year (okay, the 16 of us if you count the cats).

We aren't having turkey, we're having ham. I wasn't sure I'd have enough supermarket bonus points to get my free turkey in time to thaw it for Thanksgiving, but I did have a ham in the freezer, so I pulled that out instead. So we're going nontraditional - it'll be ham, roasted veggies (potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, parsnips, rutabaga, onion, and herbs), some kind of brussels sprouts (heck, maybe I'll roast them, too), pumpkin pie, and something with apples. And then sometime before New Year's Day we'll have the turkey that is now occupying space in our freezer.

We normally go to my aunt's house but Sandy made travel plans (train) pretty difficult this year. So it's going to be just the two of us. I got a small boneless turkey breast roast and am making cranberry sauce, Brussels sprouts, yams, and vegetarian stuffing. The stuffing and sauce will be done tonight so tomorrow I only need to take care of the veggies and bird.

For dessert, I usually bake a pumpkin cheesecake to bring to the family but will just do some baked apples tomorrow to cut down on the clean up.

gaah gaah gaah

I just found out that Epic Mickey 2 will be on sale at Walmart Thursday at 8pm at half price. I really want the game, I've been moping all week that I couldn't really afford to spend $50 on a game right now. I'm willing to do $25 though! My son says that he would go with me. Here's the thing, I have anxiety problems in crowds of people. I'm not sure I could handle the extreme shoppers body checking me out of the way, and if I went through that only to come up empty handed I would be crushed. Ho hum... I think I'll have to continue to go without.

Did you check their website? Some stores are doing equal pricing online for Black Friday sales this year. Don't know if Walmart is one of them, but it wouldn't hurt to look! mickey

We don't have thanksgiving here though in tribute to our fellow Americans we do have a thanksgiving meal, usually we take it in turns with other friends who love the USA but earlier this week they called to cancel. So it will just be the 2 of us this year.

Kristen your meal sounds amazing, what time shall we come over Laughing out loud

I did, it's in store only. However Target is price matching this year and they might be a little less "crazy" at that store.

I'm at my brother's in Pensacola, FL, arrived late Sunday from Pittsburgh. I made my apricot bread that I would usually take to my sister's if I were home. We are having the traditional Thanksgiving dinner...so to all my WDWFG friends, Happy Thanksgiving and save room for dessert. laugh

Yay! Thanks Jeff, I just ordered mine too!

Okay, so our family has been rocked with grief this morning. One of my son's DeMolay Brothers Mother passed away from a massive stroke. Mike is just 17, and is a fantastic young man. He and his 13 year old sister lived with their Mom. I'm told they do have other family in the area. Mike's Mom was probably in her early 40s, and I was just laughing and talking with her Sunday. I'm in total shock, and my heart is absolutely breaking for those kids. If any of you are the praying kind, please keep the Donovan kids in your prays for me, they have a rough road ahead.

I am even more thankful for what I have and the people in my life today. Being part of this community is so important to me. I know we're not all friends in the sense that we hang out in person all the time, or see each other, none the less I give thanks for each and every one of you. I wish you love, so much love, not only today but every day you should know how much you mean. Thank you for sharing this little bit of your lives with me, it brings me great joy. I'm hugging my kids extra tight, and counting every little blessing.

Now, back to cooking! I think the dressing has some tears baked into it.

Kristen, this site is so amazing because although I am fairly new, I feel a connection with you all and a bond (I am calling it this because I don't know if it can be called a friendship as we have never met) I will say a prayer and of course send some pixie dust (I am not being flippant, I believe in it as a great tonic and it really has got me through a tough year of illness and bereavements) to you and your friends x

Thank you so much ladies. I know that all the prayers and pixie dust does indeed help, I don't find it flippant at all Miss Mikki, just another form of loving energy sent out into the universe.

I do hope that everyone who is celebrating today is having a good day. In between cooking I've been watching my son replay Epic Mickey so that he's back in the hang of it for the new one. He's unlocked some content we hadn't seen before which has been pretty cool.

My turkey has another 40 minutes in the oven and the house smells fantastic.

Wow, that's a very sad story, Kristen. Our thoughts go out as well.

I know you've mentioned the DeMolay program before, but this time I decided to research it! What a great program. I I did not know that much about it. I'm glad I checked it out.

I was even more surprised to see many familiar names amongst the alums - including Walt!

We are just finishing the first plating - there will be at least 2 platefuls! YAY! Then it's time for that tart thingie - here's what it looks like:

Thanks Jeff! So glad that you went and checked out what DeMolay is about. It really is a great fraternity, and I'm pretty proud my kids participate. LoL... That's pretty much my life, Disney and DeMolay. Walt Disney was actually one of the earliest members of the Order of DeMolay joining the "mother" chapter (when he was 19) during it's very first year. He wore his DeMolay ring well into his 40s. And that's my geeky trivia for today. laugh

The tart looks absolutely wonderful! I'm a sucker for anything gingery. My pies did not look half that beautiful.
