Favorite Eats and Drinks from Epcot’s Mexico Pavilion

This week we're celebrating Cinco de Mayo and I can't think of a better way to celebrate than with some of my favorite things to eat and drink from Epcot's Mexico pavilion! The pavilion is home to two table service restaurants, a quick service spot, and an amazing tequila bar so the options for great food and drink are plenty.

What are your favorites? What are your favorites?

One of my favorite spots for a quick service meal in World Showcase is La Cantina de San Angel. You'll find good food, good margaritas, and great al fresco dining. I really love finding a waterfront table and enjoying a relaxing lunch or dinner. (Beware of the birds!)

There are two items on the menu that are always on the top of my list: the nachos and the Empanadas de Queso. While the nachos are a great sharable snack or meal due in part to the huge portion size, I'm usually not willing to share the empanadas. The deep fried pockets of cheese topped with queso fresco and green salsa are too good to share.

If you're ordering dessert with your meal (or if you're on the Disney Dining Plan and dessert is included) we recommend the Churritos! These deep fried sweet treats come with a side of caramel dipping sauce and they're divine. These also make a great snack as you travel through World Showcase.

Of course no good Cinco de Mayo celebration is complete without a margarita (or two). On a recent visit I decided that I had to try the avocado margarita at the San Angel Inn (you can also find it at La Cava del Tequila).

Now, the words "avocado" and "margarita" don't sound like they should go together but oh-my-good-gracious what a drink! I will admit that I was skeptical and was fully prepared to hate this drink but honestly I'm still thinking about it today and wishing I could have another.

Avocado margaritas are a must!Avocado margaritas are a must!

The avocado margarita is made with fresh avocado, tequila, Midori melon liquor, agave nectar syrup, and lime juice. It's cold and creamy and the flavors work perfectly together. I would definitely put this drink on the top of my must-have margarita list.

Speaking of La Cava, if you're looking for some amazing margaritas you need to stop here. This great (and cozy) tequila bar is serving up delicious margaritas including pomegranate, tamarind, and blood orange. You can also order tequila flights. If you're lucky enough to find a table, sit down for a spell and enjoy those drinks (or just order at the bar).

Maybe you want a snack with your margarita? If the answer is yes (as it should be) you'll want to order the chips and queso at La Cava. The chips are crispy and delicious and the queso has just the right amount of heat. You can also add guacamole to the order.

While you can't really beat La Cava, if you're in the mood for a quick margarita stop as you travel through Mexico you can always stop at the margarita kiosk and get a frozen or on-the-rocks beverage. These margaritas aren't anything special (they can't compare to that avocado marg!) but they're still tasty and they pack a punch so sip with caution. I'm particularly fond of the layered frozen margarita featuring strawberry, mango, and lime flavors.

So there it is: a few of my favorite things to eat in Epcot's Mexico pavilion in honor of Cinco de Mayo! We'd love to hear your favorites so stop by the comment section and let us know.

Many thanks to the Disney Food Blog for use of their photos.

Love just getting the Frozen Margaritas from the stand. Usually, we hit Future World, and by the time we're heading over to World Showcase for a late lunch, we can't resist refreshing ourselves...
