Do you bring your cell phone in the parks?

This seems like a no-brainer, but I find that when I'm going "bag-free" in the parks, my cell phone ends up being a liability. I have to wrap it up when I'm on water rides, and it's kind of bulky to tuck into a pocket. I usually end up bringing it, but I'm wondering if I'm in the majority or the minority on that one.

If you bring yours, what do you do with it to keep it dry/out of the way?

I bring it to use the Disney mobile service and find out wait times, show times, or where certain characters are. I usually put it in a ziplock bag when I'm hitting a water ride!

There's no point in taking mine to the parks since it costs a fortune to use it stateside. At home I'm rarely without it, but it's amazing how quickly I can get used to not having it.

I feel the same way when I go "across the pond." I always have my laptop and email handy in the room, but it's nice to not be at everyone's beck and call by phone.

Annie -- I usually take my phone into the parks like Jess, does. I bring a ziploc bag along for tickets, phone, camera and put everything in that. I also wear shorts with big pockets!

I take mine, i use the camera and keep it on me in case of emergencies, but then i dont go bag free either so its no great shake to dump it in my bag - i do usually have something waterproof inside my bad to put camera & phone into anyway Smile - try not to use it much as it costs a bomb

Usually no..
We like to be on vacation when we are on vacation..the cell phone just reminds me that there are people out there that want to talk to me about refilling my perscriptions or brining my car in for an oil change..and on vacation I just don't want to hear that.

I was just debating whether or not I was doing to bring my phone into the parks. On one hand I don't want to be at everyone's beck and call(PUN!) but I love 4square and the new iPhone places app that allow you to check in and tell people where you are. I'm one of those over-connected people and I would love to "check-in" at different rides and such... biggrin

I haven't been to the parks since I got my new phone, a fancy android. Prior to that my phone was a complete piece of junk.

I will now be torn between whether I want my phone's functionality and whether I want to know when work calls. I find it much easier to ignore work when I don't know they've called.

I just remembered another reason why I want my cell with me. I put all of my ADRs in my calendar with the res# so I can have them on hand. Also I have alarms set for mt ADRs so I don't miss them.

I do usually bring my phone into the parks and use the ziplock bag trick. It's helpful to have to keep in touch with DW if we get separated or if we decide to head to the parks while the other person wants to lounge by the pool. I also like the functionality of being able to check in on work stuff when I need to. I find it easier to keep up with work than come back to the room at the end of the day to emergencies!

I too use mine, much for it's intended purpose, as a sort of personal assistant. All my ADR's with confirmation numbers are on my calendar with alarms and reminders set. We also use our phones to pass the time in lines occasionally. We have found them handy many times when something came up and we needed to make a change or some such. We also carry a ziplock bags for water rides. Our last trip, the only bag we carried was a medium size women's Camelbak which was a lifesaver with the heat. The bag was just the right size for carrying essentials along with the water.

I can honestly say I have never taken my cell phone into one of the parks. MrHub does but ends up turning it off when we go into a ride or show and forgets to turn it back on.The only real use of even his cell phone it to see the time. Neither of us wear a watch.

My phone has replaced watches too. I just hope I'm not a slave to my phone while I'm at Disney like I am in real life.

I take my phone with me everywhere including Disney.

I used to have to use a Family radio when going with friends and we got seperated or wanted to do different things but now with our cell phones it's so much easier to not have to worry about getting seperated.

We do use it also to call WDW Dining if we decide we want to eat somewhere and want to find out how has availability.

I've done the WDW Dining trick too many times! I know you can just walk into any restaurant and check on ADRs for any other restaurant, but sometimes the lines are horrible!

I'm also glad that walkie talkies have kind of fallen by teh wayside. Those were pretty annoying in the parks!

Me too. They were good for their time but too bulky and everyone can hear your conversations. Now I just usually text. Works so much nicer. awesome

I too am glad the walkie-talkie era seems to of ended! I hated those.

I also hated the cell phones that acted as Walkie-talkies..I think they were Nextel..those things were obnoxious.
