Hello from Florida! New Disney Addicts here!!

Hello everyone! I'm Dee and my 12 year old daughter is Tori (Victoria). We are new Disney Addicts! I have lived in Florida for 21 years now have just finally been able to really experience Disney and all it has to offer. I believe I went once when I was in my 20's. Took my daughter once a few years back to MK and we liked it then. Finally our New Years Resolution this year was to go back to WDW. We bought our 3 day disney Florida Resident passes in February and went in March to see if we liked it (still). Stayed at a value resort and ate at O'hana, Crystal Palace and some other places. Well all I can say is, the 2nd day first thing in the morning (8am mind you) I upgraded us to Annual Passes and that's all she wrote! We FELL IN LOVE with it and we've been Disney-fied ever since! I've planned a Disney Cruise for December for my daughter and I plus my 72 year old mom! and so far I haven't told them about it! I'm so excited I can hardly hold it in! Not sure when I'll tell them but both their birthdays are in August and close together...so not sure if I can wait until then to tell them? Mother's Day is coming up.... Smile

SO a question for you all as well - does anyone here go to Disney solo? I want to go even when my daughter isn't around. Does anyone have thoughts/tips about that?

Looking forward to getting to know everyone and I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Dee

Any question you can think of, somebody here will have an answer for. Looking forward to getting to know you better and hearing about your trips to WDW!

Welcome to the group Dee! That's wonderful you fell in love with Disney, we all love Disney here too (obviously!) so you're in great company! I'm soooo very jealous at you living so close to Disney as we are all the way over in the UK. The cruise sounds awesome, I booked a surprise cruise for my hubby and managed to keep it quiet for 18 months Shock

HI and welcome!! Going on a solo Disney trip is great. I was there for 9 days / 8 nights in October on a solo trip, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. You can go at your own pace and do what you want when you want.

Prior to this trip, I've had a few solo days when traveling to Disney with friends or family.

My tip would be - if there is a specific restaurant you want to try do it, whether it's a character meal or signature dining. I've never felt out of place having solo meals.

Welcome again, Dee! I have only been lucky enough to do one solo day, but I would so readily do more!! DH fell ill on on 10th Anniversary trip of all times (watch out for the turkey sandwiches at Starring Roles Bakery...I hear the Evil Queen has taken to poisoning those when she runs out of apples laugh ). Of course I missed him and fell that that he spent the day feeling so poorly, but I really had a great time solo at Magic Kingdom! When we go together, of course I take into consideration the fact that he doesn't prefer to ride It's a Small World 7 times in a row, so I enjoy one time and move on. He doesn't like Astro Orbiter, so I usually skip it. I'd never drug him to Country Bear Jamboree or the Enchanted Tiki Room, so I finally got to see them again. He gets annoyed by how many pictures I take (even though he'd never say it) and how many pins I trade (which he complains about constantly). It was very liberating and most enjoyable to be able to follow my own agenda. I say go for it!!

Hello, Florida Dee, and welcome.

Another of our members, DisneyDee, has gone solo many times, but she may be too busy being a police officer to answer just now.

I have gone solo a couple of times. First was four years ago; my hubby couldn't come and while I had a sister and her family along, they were doing all Universal while I spent 5 days in the Disney parks alone. Second trip was just this spring, when my travelling companion, Robynprincess, made it back to the UK just fine on departure day, but snow back home in the northeast USA kept me in Florida a few extra days.

Do it! Going to WDW alone is lots of fun. It's different from travelling with friends and family, but has its own pleasures and advantages, chief among which is the ability to do what you want when you want to do it. Not hungry? Wait to get lunch or dinner. Hate a particular ride? No need to wait around while your companions do it. The whole day is entirely yours to plan as you please. As much as I love visiting with friends and family, i would go alone again if the opportunity presented itself.
