Refillable Mugs at the Resorts

Does anyone know the policy for the new refillable mugs at the resorts? We purchased ours a couple of years ago and was able to use them at any resort to get unlimited refills. I understand now there is a new policy which limits the number of refills, or at least the frequency by which you can refill.

Also, do we have to purchase new mugs or will they allow us to trade our old ones in? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If you are on a dining plan, the mugs are included with the plan. They way it works now, is that the cups have radio frequency chips in them that drink fountains read to dispense whatever drink you want from the fountain. I believe you have to wait 3 minutes or so in between filling up the cup completely. Old cups will not work in the new machines and you can not trade them in. If you are not on the dining plan, you can purchase your cups for only a day or for your whole stay. If you purchase a mug for one day, you can refill it until 11:59 pm that day, they don't count it from the time you purchase it.

Here is a link about it

I hope this helps.

When we stayed in value, these mugs were awesome because I would walk the short distance to the food court and get DH and I (and DSs later on) hot choc and coffee. But when we moved to moderate, with a coffee pot in the room and I just brought some instant hot choc, we didn't make the major trek to the front of the resort for a refill and if we ate breakfast at the court, we didn't want to walk back and return them to the room nor carry them around.

I wish if you were booking moderate or deluxe they would give you another option....another snack in exchange?
There are already cups and glasses in the room. I suppose if you want milk or soda to bring back it works, but again not for adults as much......

We bought two of the refillable mugs when we stayed at Pop Century last month, and it was definitely worth it, what with not having any kind of kitchen equipment beyond a tiny refrigerator in our room.

With the new RF mugs, you can only use them at your own resort. So no getting a refill at the Contemporary or Polynesian if you're staying at Pop Century.

We always buy the mugs. We use them for our coffee in the mornings and then again if we want coffee after dinner. For us it is just easier to go get the coffee than to make coffee.

And I'm still getting use out of mine today. Excuse me, what do you mean you don't have "Mickey waffles?"

I love the mugs. I do take it out with me in the day as most of the time the table service places will make you up a soda in a Togo cup, I just dispense it into my mug Smile

Thanks for all your input everyone. So when I purchase the new mug and I don't purchase a dining plan, will I have to pay to use them for each future stay? And how much are the new mugs? We paid $15 for each of the old mugs.

If you're not on the dining plan, my understand the pricing goes as follows:

$8.99 for 1 Day
$11.99 for 2 Days
$14.99 for 3 Days
$17.99 for Length of Stay (If you're staying longer, "Add-1-Day" or "Add-2-Day" options can be added.)

Here's a picture I found online for confirmation:

And you will have to buy new mugs each trip. They cannot be reused from what I understand.

Ask Mr. Hub and scrappy - they have quite a collection going! mickey

You are correct Doc. You do have to buy mugs each trip. And yes we do have quite a few of them around here.

I would love to fill one up with coffee and sip it while I wait for the bus in the morning to take us to the parks, but then I would have to lug it around all day. I don't think they are especially water-tight are they? How do others deal with the issue of carrying them around in the parks? If you do carry them around, can you ask for them to be filled with water at the counter service restaurants rather than disposable cups?

We never carried them around. We got a drink in the morning and another in the evening, but left them in our room during the day.

However, they are fairly watertight. Not completely, but I knocked mine onto my Magical Express seat on the ride back to the airport, full of Coke, and only a little bit dribbled out.

We do not carry the mugs around all day. We use them at the resort only. I really do not know if they would fill it for you with water and ice in the parks. That would probably be a cleanliness issue but you could still just pour it from the paper cup into your mug. I do not find the mugs all that water tight either.

I agree. The mugs are not exactly very water tight. Not only that, the mugs only hold 16 oz, more than a regular soda can but less than a typical 20 oz beverage you would buy at a soda vending machine. So you're better off re-filling fewer times with a bigger water bottle rather than many times with a smaller one.

Any place that has ice and/or water (not bottled) will happily fill your water bottle, mug, purse, etc with ice and/or water. I have asked many times for my water bottle and they are always very nice. Sometimes they hand you water in a thin plastic glass to pour in yourself. In some places they keep a record of sales etc by the cups.

Example is when my men bought beer in the finest plastic souvenir mugs, Disney makes sarcastic , they decided in a relatively brief time to get another. yay They took their mugs us but the CM handed them a plastic cup the same size and told them to pour it in themselves since they count by the cup.

We do not carry the mugs out of the resort as we have collapsible glasses and water bottles (easier to carry). I will admit the water at MK tastes different from the other three parks and my DH will start with a full bottle in the morning from the resort and then buy after that. I also had quite a collection until I started to realize that they were no longer keeping my coffee warm on my drive to work and were looking abit worn out. Then last year, students who had been there and had them at home (probably taking up space their mother didn't care for), handed them over.

February will be out first trip with the RFID refillable mugs. How is everyone liking these? Has anybody had any trouble with them or significantly had to change their habits because of the new mugs?

We don't usually get the RFID mugs because we usually stay DVC and have a kitchen. When we stayed at Pop Century last April we did get the mugs because we couldn't make coffee or tea in our room, and we had no problems at all with them.

The colors are purple, blue, orange and red. And we didnt have any problems at all with them on our last trip. We always get them because we always us the dining plan.

We are always on the dinning plan so we get them every visit. They are nice to have but I don't think we always use them to there full advantage. We probably only use them about two or three times a day at the most. I think I use them more at home than at Disney!

I'm with you on that one. My room was a fair trek to the refill station so I only wandered over if I was not collapsing into bed. I did however use it for ice every night and top it up with my own drinks.

WE got them and used them a lot. Mostly because I can get hot tea and it was SO COLD while we were there in November.

No problems at all.

No issues at all except one day when my sister and I were sent to fill up the mugs for the room and we mixed up which drink we were supposed to get in which cup so we had to poor it out and refill. Except with the RFID chip we had to wait until the time had elapsed before we were able to refill so that was kind of a PITA but I understand why and it was our fault so no big deal. We had the cups because of the dining plan and we definitely didn't take advantage of them since it was a trek to the main building and the pool where the two refill stations were. I really wish that each building had it's own refill station and we definitely would have used it more.

Or at least each 'Village'/Cluster of buildings (Thinking of resorts like CBR)

Absolutely, yes sorry. That is what I meant. So like at CSR one at Cabanas, Rancheros, and Casitas.

We bought our first mugs at Ft. Wilderness in 1992. At that time we were told they were good for free refills any time we were at that resort. ANYTIME!!!!! We must have made 50 trips to the world before they stopped honoring that one. OH well! I still love Disney.

Thank you,
