The Size Of Your Resort..

Yes..I'am asking another silly question here folks...But before deciding which resort we were going to pick on our second visit.( our first being CBR ) I got it down to 2... POFQ and PORS...We opted for FQ because I had read do many people going on about RS being such a huge resort and spread out, I was imagining this massive complex of buildings, but it turned out to be not that huge at all, and we spent our next three vacations there...But how important is the size of your resort when deciding where to stay..Now this year we've spread our wings ( and visa ) and have opted for WL..I believe it's under 900 rooms so it must be one of the smallest Disney resorts on site..( correct me if I'am wrong folks ) ...The reason I ask about the size of resort and grounds is my DW was talking to a friend on the phone and asked me if AoA was the biggest value resort.( rooms and property ) As she was looking into staying there this year..I know it has different suites ( cars..lion king..Nemo, little mermaid ) but I've never really thought about getting around the resort if you had several children..Anyway, back to my original question..Does the size of property and grounds play a role when deciding your final choice.?

Our TA says it is the smallest of all the resorts. We are staying there in Sept. I am the youngest of the four adults going, but our friends can speed walk anyone into the ground. i admit by the end of the day, my legs are drooping a bit, so the smaller park is a bit of a draw. I have tried to get in there the last two trips but when those darn resort discounts come out POFQ usually isn't included and so we had to move to snag the discount. This time, we should be there for FD instead!

Depends on what you mean by 'size'.

I would rather be at a resort where everything was close by instead of spread out. For that reason, I tend to prefer WL & AKL instead of CBR, POFQ, PORS, etc. I've never really been concerned about the volume of people staying at a resort.

I only consider price vs. theme and amenities. We've stayed at Saratoga, which I believe is one of the largest resorts. We've also stayed at PORS and Coronado and found the criticism of "large confusing layout" ini the Official Guide to be somewhat silly. The little bit of extra walking relative to all of the in-park walking seems like nothing to me.

On our last trip, we went to Top of the World at BLT and to be honest, it was weird to us that there was only one building. I'm not saying that we would pass up a chance to stay there--in fact, we have 4 nights booked there in September, but we've grown accustomed to a larger resort, so it's the small resorts that seem strange to us!

It's never been an issue for us in the past. I don't really mind walking a bit around the resort, the only thing that was slightly annoying with CBR was that our building was sometimes the last dropoff for the bus which, after a LONG day at the park, sometimes seemed to take forever to go through all the rest of the resort. Going forward when we start bring DD, I might move "small resort" a little higher on the list of wants/needs in a resort as it's more difficult to tote a toddler, stroller, diaper bag, etc., etc., etc. around then it is just myself, DH, and a backpack.

Hubby and I don't really care about the size of a resort, but it must have a bar/lounge (and not just a pool bar). We like to stop and have an adult beverage after a long day in the park. Of course, with the Disney Transportation System, we can really do that anywhere and not have to worry about driving, but we just think it's nice to sit and relax a little bit before going to bed to rest up for the next day's adventure.

Edited to add: I should probably tell you that we don't have any children. So we don't have to worry about lugging strollers and/or diaper bags around or who's going to watch the kids while we have the above referenced adult beverage (or two). biggrin

From a height perspective, size doesn't matter. However, I would prefer my resort where everything is centralized and not so spread out like the values and moderates. I mean, after a long day in the parks, I just want to be in my room as quickly as possible. Staying at a value resort and having to walk all the down to your room that's far away from the main lobby may be more quiet but there's a price of having to walk more. (The converse has a price to pay, too. Having a room close to the main lobby tends to mean it's more noisy.) But I mean, I think price, location and amenities are hands down, the three biggest factors when deciding any hotel or resort in general.

I think size does play a factor. We like WL because it is a smaller resort. To me CBR is so big and kind of scary. It is spread out and lots of walking from point A to point B. Wilderness is nice and compact and everything is easy to get to.

For me size doesn't matter. I personally prefer to stay at the value resorts. Why you ask?? Well because I would much rather spend my $$$ on souvenirs and food. Most trips we go on we spend very little time in our rooms. We normally stay out late as possible, come in, pass out and wake up ready to go. Even on vacation (yes, even my honeymoon) I was up no later than 6am.

I have stayed at a couple of the moderate resorts but for me, spending time in the rooms is no biggie for me. I can rest when I get home! LOL

The resort size is not the consideration for me. Ease of getting to the parks is huge in my book. I don't like buses with multi stops so resort like pop or AOA that don't normally share stops are at the top of my list. The boardwalk area resorts could be fun too.

I guess I never thought much about it. I loved the proximity to the parks few times I've been at a monorail resort, but we're most often at Pop or an All Star, so I'm used to the big spread-out resorts. Doesn't bother me much.

Except November two years ago. I got an incredible deal through a travel site for resort and air for five days. It was really, really inexpensive, so I booked it. I ended up on the top floor, in the back hallway, in the last room, in the last building of ASMusic. I don't mind a walk, but that was a loooooooong way.

Okay, I made the mistake of asking the DH this question, who usually leave the specifics to me and the TA, BUT he said to clarify that it's not the size of the resort, but the size of the beds that matters. No full size for us. Queens or King! Not our friend from Scotland either......

Funny you should mention bed size...Our last visit (2012) PORS had been upgraded to Kings from our previous visits of Queens.I never really noticed a huge difference..Yes I believe it is about 6" bigger..But I'am so exhausted I never take the time to look..I just hit that pillow and I'am out like a lightbulb..

We have gone from staying at all star music to Old key west! The internal bus system scares me. But I don't think it will matter one bit about the size

Cant judge for another, but when the tootsies are hanging over the edge and we are falling off the sides, it's not the best comfort for the dollar. My DH is 6'6" and I am 5'10" and while I do love the man, rolling over in the night should not be an olympic sport!

Size doesn't bother me exactly however what does bother me is how spread out the resort is. We are DVC now and I wouldn't entertain SSR or OKW without hiring a car, and I would always choose to stay in a higher rise hotel that is all together (like BLT).

the only thing about the large resorts for us like Saratoga for instance is proximity to the main lobby or where the qs and store is, I tend to spend a lot of time walking there getting snacks or coffee or just other stuff we might need and if your far away it is a pain

I have to agree. If we get the mugs with our plan, but have to walk to Kansas to get a refill, it's not worth the mug. The coffee pot in our room doesn't need a "magic mug" to drink my brew. waiting

I would rather they left some regular mug or I will bring one of my old ones to drink out of in the room. In addition, if snacks are needed in the evening or bringing back breakfast snacks in the morn, it gets old by the third day.
