Staying at Disney's Polynesian Resort

So I'm staying at the Poly on this next trip (I think, I keep getting confused). I've actually never stayed there before so I'm pretty pumped to get one knocked off my list. clapping

Two questions:

1.) Is there anything anyone would like me to get info on, figure out, or take a picture of?
2.) Does anyone who's stayed there have any good tips/tricks?

I want you to find out when they are going to build a DVC resort there, just kidding but I am starting to think it could happen. No real tips for you because everyone likes different things. MrHub has been talking back and forth with the Tikiman. Our favorite building is one he has not stayed in in nearly 20 years. I can tell you that the buildings to the left of the marina looking out at the Magic Kingdom are the nice quiet ones. The ones near the pool and beach are filled with families and kids.

I'm really excited for you, this is a place we really want to stay! We figure for our 10 year wedding anniversary we will {4 more years!} to make it special! I want to see pictures!

This resort is so exotic. Please take pictures of any unique garden areas.

We never manage to do the movies on the beach, but I'd love to sometimes. Watching the fireworks from the Poly beach is the best. We always camp-out forever beforehand so we can get a hammock!

We stayed at the Polynesian in May, and our room was in the Figi building - farthest from the TTC, but so nice at night when we could go right below our room to watch the MK fireworks on the beach. When we were there, nobody was on the beach watching the fireworks with us. (I'm not sure why that was???) We had a perfect, relaxing view practically right beneath our room, and it was very secluded when we were there. It was near where they have the luau dinner. I loved the Polynesian! You are going to enjoy it!

That sounds wonderful! Are the movies open to Poly guests only?

A small corner to stow away in y'all's suitcase? Smile Other than that, you take my well wishes, and a request to get pics of it all! The Poly seems the most mysterious to me...I feel like there's so much of it that somehow is hidden. I've never seen the pool, for instance, except from Scrappy's pics.

Nope. And they also do it at quite a few of the other resorts as well. We always want to do it but can never find the time.

This is a really weird question. I would love to stay there, but i'm terrified of exotic birds. Considering it's a "hawaiian themed" resort are there exotic birds hanging out? I'm talking macaws and other big parrots?

biggrin

yay I'm glad you found this HILARIOUS mrhub. hahaha I know i'm pretty pathetic. We went to vegas a couple years ago and I couldn't walk into the Tropicana. I have funny pictures of us at DTD in front of Rainforest Cafe with the Macaws out front. I wouldn't get closer than like 20 feet. I hate them.

Do animatronic ones bother you?

I've actually found that bird phobias are very common. I went to Kauai with a group and like 4 or 5 of them were afraid of chickens, which is bad in Kauai, because chickens are everywhere.

animatronics don't bug me too much. i know they are fake. i even have a hard time looking at pictures of birds. it just totally freaks me out. all birds scare me but the more colorful they are the worst. especially macaws, cockatoos(those are the root of my problem), african grey. in disney those white birds with the long beaks really freaked me out but i got used to them towards then end and moved on with my trip.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm terrified of dinosaurs. Its a crazy phobia, but I can't ride Dinosaur at AK or Jurassic Park at IOA. I scream every time. Little kids take those rides better than me.

How would I learn about when and where there are movies taking place for guests? Thanks!

Most of the resorts have a schedule of events printed and available near the check-in counter and don't be shy, they do not mind you just walking up and taking one. That's what they are there for.

I'm not making fun honeymoonin, I'm just picturing the Poly actually having those birds all over the place, I would have probably killed a few by now! Or at least given a few a what for!

i have been lucky enough to stay there a few times, the best suggestion i have is take a day and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere at the poly, get one of there spesialty drinks at the bar or the beach and just relax for the day. i always try to do it sometime in the middle of the trip to rest up and get rejuvinated for the rest of the trip. i have found the poly to be the most relaxing and layed back of all the resorts

I can see you now Hub running after the birds trying to smack them with your hat!
