Top of the World Lounge

I'm heading to WDW in exactly 2 months and I'm trying to decide whether or not to visit the Top of the World Lounge. Anyone been? I'm also considering trying to catch Wishes from there. What do y'all think?

I haven't been there but the view is nice from almost the top of the Contemporary. I had reservations for my birthday at Cali Grill and we were seated in time for the fireworks. So nice!!

Thanks Mandy! I'm hoping that will be the perfect way to kickoff our trip!

I've never been so I can't be any help to you, lol. But I am glad you started this thread! I read in a trip report about someone going there and it seems pretty cool! I wonder if being there for Wishes is hard to time, not to mention getting a good view.

First off, are you a DVC member or are you going with one? If not you can't get in there. it for DVC members only staying at WDW on points.

I absolutely love Top of the World! It's my favorite lounge on property and the fireworks view is awesome.

Yes, I am a DVC member but I'm not staying at BLT. Does it matter if I'm staying at BLT or not? Also, my sister and her family are staying at BLT at that time so maybe we can piggyback on their reservation?

Thanks for the pictures Kristen, it looks amazing! Do you know if they play the music at the Top of the World Lounge during Wishes?

Through 2013 (with a black out week around Christmas) all DVC Members are able to access the lounge. There's no word yet on if that will be available in 2014.

They do pipe in the music both inside and out on the patio.

Kristen, is it DVC members only or members and their guests? We are picking up two friends who go to Full Sail and taking them out for dinner on our first night at WDW, but they are not staying the week on our reservation. We would like to do something special for them after dinner. Do you know if they could go in with us? We were originally thinking the Boardwalk or beach at Poly for Wishes since they won't have park tickets, but the Top of the World Lounge would be really cool, too. I didn't even consider it because I was thinking that it was only open to folks staying at BLT and we are staying at SSR.

For 2013 it is Members and their guests. mickey That's subject to change for 2014.

Also note that, depending on the timing, you might be able to have a very nice view of the Water Pageant on Bay Lake, which is on the opposite side of the Lounge from your Wishes viewing area.

I love that show! I worked a couple days at Wilderness Lodge and got to watch the show. I had no idea it was an actual show until those days.

Ok, you all talked me into it! Top of the World it is! No reservations necessary, right?

If you are renting DVC points, are you still eligible to go there??

Well technically no, but if you're lucky and they just ask to see your room key that says you're in a DVC you can be in! I did this last year but this year they asked for our membership card.

OK, here is the current official policy till the end of this year. This was obtained from the DVC Members website for BLT:

Quote:
Top of the World Lounge is located at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort.

Disney Vacation Club Members staying at any Disney-owned-and-operated hotel at Walt Disney World Resort (whether they booked with vacation points or cash) may enjoy access to one of the vacation kingdom's most exclusive spaces: the Top of the World Lounge atop Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort through December 29, 2013 (blockout dates in 2013 are July 3 and 4, and December 30 and 31). Current operating hours are 6 p.m. to midnight.

This perk is available exclusively to Members and those in their traveling party who are staying on that Member's reservation. At least one Member in the traveling party must accompany the group and present his or her current Key to the World card displaying a Disney Vacation Club Membership notation in order to gain admission to the lounge. If the Member's Key to the World card doesn't display a Membership notation, a Disney Vacation Club Member ID is required in addition to the Key to the World card to verify Membership.

Note that Members traveling from other Resorts must use Walt Disney World Transportation, as parking is unavailable to anyone not staying at Bay Lake Tower or Disney's Contemporary Resort. Upon arrival, Members must walk to the Bay Lake Tower main lobby entrance on the ground floor and check in at the Top of the World Lounge desk in the lobby.

This special Top of the World Lounge access is available on a first-come, first-served basis until the lounge reaches capacity. As the lounge is particularly popular during the Magic Kingdom fireworks, arriving as early as possible will give Members the best chance of gaining admission.

So there has to be at least one DVC member that accompanies you if you are not a DVC member, and that DVC member must also be staying at a Disney Resort at that moment.

That should clarify things somewhat.

Zz.

I think I need to check this out in a couple of weeks. I have not done this yet during any of my trips. I just haven't been able to make myself leave the parks. mickey

I usually arrive 30 minutes to an hour before Wishes, and I do order something but you don't have to.
