Old Key West Resort's Gurgling Suitcase Bar

This week's stop on our tour of Disney Bars and Lounges is The Gurgling Suitcase at Disney Vacation Club's Old Key West Resort. This sunny spot to grab a drink is located in the "Conch Flats Village" main square located just off the main lobby. What a great location it is too, right near check in, the restaurants, self parking, the feature pool and the marina.

Gurgling Suitcase is a full service bar with both indoor and outdoor seating open from 11:30 am - 12:00am. The interior decor is covered with an eclectic collection of donated license plates, patches, and DVC Member family photos. Though that style of decor can often become dark and cluttered, the suitcase remains bright and cheerful. The front door of this bar are left open to welcome guests home, and invite them in for a drink. Amazingly the AC keeps the interior magically cool, and comfortable within it's walls.

While there's no food served here, when at the Gurgling Suitcase you'll find yourself just steps away from both Olivia's Cafe and Good's Food To Go. One of the most wonderful things about this bar is that not only does it carry the standard Disney Bar Menus, but there's a fine selection of specialty cocktails that you won't find anywhere else on property. Hand written on a sign proclaiming "Welcome Home" there are just a few of the specialties you may find.

  • Sultry Seahorse: Disaronno amaretto, creme de banana, pineapple juice, orange juice and a float of cherry brandy.
  • Turtle Krawl: Coconut rum, spiced rum and white rum with pineapple, orange and key lime juices.
  • Woo Woo: Vodka, Peach Schnapps & Cranberry
  • Bocce Ball: Disaronno amaretto & OJ

Hubby got a rum runner at Gurgling Suitcase while we waited for a table at Olivia's on our arrival day last month. I had a sip (okay, maybe it was two or three sips) and it was very tasty. Gurgling Suitcase is a cozy little bar with just about any drink most folks might want. There isn't much seating inside, but there's plenty of room for you and your drink out on the deck.

The bartenders there are great, very friendly. A couple pina coladas and some popcorn (purchased at the Conch Flats General Store) made for a great afternoon.

While it is a bit off of the beaten path, I know of few other locations on Disney property where I could enjoyably destroy a few minuts or a couple of hours. My wife and I stayed at OKW for a single night in July (locals). The bartenders took care of my wife an I with fun conversation and drinks while we waited for the boat to downtown Disney. Great job and my favorite memory from that weekend.
Because of that I spent parts of a rainy afternoon in September whiling the day away talking with the bartenders and my fellow DVC members.
This cozy little place and On Top of the World are my favorite drink spots in the "World".
