**I don't like that this guy just showed up without so much as a cool movie. I mean, are we supposed to be impressed because he's some sort of internationally revered model? And now they let him dress up as other characters? No. That's Stitch's bit. This guy is such a poser. And now he's busting on bald guys? Back off, Duffy. laugh

Omg I so agree with you! I don't like him either cause he didn't even have the balls to make a movie or anything, he just came to sell himself and his many outfits to unsuspecting parents!

This truly is my main problem with him. I freely and openly acknowledge that Disney is marketing to me 24-7, but I like their products and services and I choose to spend my vacation in a place where I know that the executives are working very hard to monetize my fun. Why? Because in return, I am receiving an AWESOME vacation full of experiences that I can't have anywhere else with a consistent quality that is unparalleled anywhere I've ever been. Yes, Disney, I will continue to buy your magic beans because I like the free pony and the candy that you give me with said beans.

Duffy is pure marketing and he has given us nothing in return. He was created because someone at Disney woke up one day and said, "Crap! We don't have a teddy bear! Kids love teddy bears! Let's make a teddy bear!" I like that there is a character associated with the World Showcase, but with the depth of the Disney character pool, I really feel like he is completely superfluous and, cute and fluffy as he is, a callous marketing ploy.

Lotso wasn't good enough? No wonder he's so bitter.

Ummmm.... right. OK.

Disney used to be (for at least a decade, maybe more) home to one of the largest Teddy Bear Conventions in the world. It was a dream trip for collectors, and there were several early versions of the specialty Disney Bear before it took its Duff-a-licious form. Though the convention run ended, Duffy got a new home in one of the Disney shops, but he didn't really take off here in America. With the fans at Tokyo Disney Sea however (where his story made perfect sense) he was, and is, a GIGANTIC hit.

Here's the rest of the story...

Just like attractions move from park to park, so does merchandise, and its successful launch in one location is going to pretty much assure that you will see it in other locations. Dole Whip and Turkey Leg merchandise has become HUGE over the past two years and I don't hear people complaining about the need for it to have its own movie.

I don't care if he has a back story. He didn't have to be so mean and hurtful to me. I was so distraught, I fell down and dropped my churro. I may sue for punitive damages.

And Lotso Bear smells better too.

I have a friend who went to Tokyo disney and the bears there are CRAZY! Adults carrying so many they could lose one at any moment, bears taped to their backpacks, stitched on their clothes etc. they love him! But as far as I'm concerned, they can keep him Wink

laugh I agree Colonel, Duffy should have been much more sensitive to the plight of the hairless. And it just wasn't right for him to think he could get all cozy with your wife like that. Simply shameful.

---

mickey Listen, for the record - I don't care if people don't like Duffy. I just want to make sure that people do know that he came from somewhere and had a reason. Some marketing exec didn't just walk into the office and think "Hey! What worthless junk can I come up with to separate people from their money today?" If you know and still think he doesn't belong, that's fine, no worries as long as the real story is out there.

Seriously, I, I mean my daughter, has at least 20 Duffy outfits that I, I mean she dresses him up in. I, I mean she, thinks he's adorable.

But if he gets a case of alopecia it would serve him right.

This made me LOL!

Kristen, I did know there was a backstory as I have a friend who fights tooth and nail with me when I rip him to shreds (metaphorically speaking, I'm not talking about a stuffed bear massacre, that would be weird Wink )

Well, I have not bought a Duffy (yet), but I confess to wanting to sometimes. He is expensive, but so darn cute. And cuddly.

Sorry Colonel - I refuse to believe that the Duffster could really be that mean. He's a teddy bear. laugh

After emails, phone calls, letters and personal inquiries at the resort, I finally received a call from WDW customer satisfaction regarding the unlit lighthouse on Crescent Lake which has been my personal quest since August. According to Disney, there have been mechanical difficulties and problems accessing the light. Really? Disney can't change a light or a small motor?
Sounds like they weren't aware it was out. Anyway, they claim it is being worked on now. So next time you see that light lit up at night, think of me. I'm taking credit for this one.

You go Colonel. My only question to Disney is...."How many maintenance personnel does it take to change a light bulb?" Hmmmmmm?

The very last stop on our last day was the DVC Merry Mixer. If you had nothing better to do I guess it was fine. But there are so many things to do in Epcot during the holidays, I didn't consider it a high priority. We budgeted a half hour for it, but we wasted 20 minutes of it waiting to get in. I never would have guessed there would be a line for it. At welcome home Wednesdays you just stroll right in.

At the DVC merry mixer you can sit at a table and drink free iced tea and eat one cookie. You can enter a raffle. You can get a picture or two with holiday theme. You can get a decent Christmas ornament (one per family). And of course you can hear the de rigeur sales spiel about Aulani and Villas at GF. I'm sure there were some games for the kids.

We only had about 10 minutes then we had to run to catch DME.

The ornament

And that was it.

It was a wonderful long weekend. We renewed our wedding vows. We got to do MVMCP again. We got to see the Osbourne Lights one more time before they're gone. And we got to do the Candlelight Processional. Nobody does holidays like Disney.

Please do. Tell him the Bald Brotherhood is watching him.

Yeah, and please let me know about that Lighthouse. I'm very interested. Because when I come out of Jelly Rolls at 2am. I need a landmark to guide me safely home.
