Disney Closes LucasArts

Disney has announced that they will be shuttering LucasArts, the development and publishing arm for interactive entertainment software. The move is a strategic shift "from an internal development to a licensing model" that will hopefully bring in successful new development partners. Sadly, with this closure there have been lay offs for approximately 150 LucasArts employees.

Guests who love Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, a Walt Disney World role-playing game, will love this news: Disney has plans to release a trading card game based on the popular in-park experience next month.

Highland Games Tournament Coming To Epcot This Summer

"Brave - The Highland Tournament Games" are coming to the Rose Walk in Epcot this summer. Starting June 1, Epcot will be hosting a series of kid friendly games based on its newest flick "Brave."

A number of activities will be available for kid participation, including a Mini Caber Toss, a Cake Toss, a Haggis Flip and archery. There also will be a kids' playground.

The real reason this story is mentioned on this Walt Disney World for Grownups site is the Rose Walk, where the games are planned to be held, will also be a site for enhanced wireless access.

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Expected To Debut in February

Last fall, we brought you news about a new role playing game coming to the Magic Kingdom sometime this year. Turns out, Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom is expected to make its debut in Magic Kingdom sometime this month.

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom looks to be a role playing game that will have guests trying to find and defeat some twenty villains throughout the park. The goal? To stop the bad guys from taking pieces of Merlin's broken crystal ball by casting spells on them using various cards.

Braves To Conduct Spring Training At WDW

Though we're not done with 2011 yet, the Atlanta Braves are looking forward to 2012 and spring training. This year, they'll make the trek to Florida to hold their spring training at the EPSN Wide World of Sports Complex located on the Walt Disney World Resort.

Look for the Braves to play eighteen games at Disney, including a matchup with current World Series champs, the St. Louis Cardinals. Other teams the Braves will face in WDW are the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies.

Tickets are set to go on sale January 7, 2012 at Ticketmaster locations and through the complex's box office.

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom to Debut in 2012

This bit of news is for those of you who like role-playing games and Disney. Sometime in early 2012, Disney is planning on debuting a new game in the Magic Kingdom called Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom.

The adventure will feature Merlin the magician looking to pick out apprentice sorcerers from the park's guests. The new apprentices will then obtain clues and maps to help them defeat Disney villains.

New Facebook Game From Disney's Playdom and NBA Digital

This past Wednesday marked the launching of NBA Dynasty, the new Facebook game from NBA Digital and Disney's Playdom. This social media game marks Playdom's first game involving a professional sports team.

The game revolves around Facebook players being able to build their ultimate "dream team" by choosing from basketball players from today and in NBA history dating to 1946. Gamers are able to compete with other friends as well as go up against NBA stars and NBA championship teams.

Disney Interactive Faces Reorganization and Lays Off 200

In a move that, according to those in the know, appeared almost expected, Disney Interactive Media Group trimmed their staff of some 200 employees this past Monday. Also a casualty of the company's vast restructuring of its digital media was Propaganda Games, the Vancouver-based development company responsible for the Tron:Evolution game.

Epic Mickey: Over 1 Million Sold

December turned out to be a very good month for Disney's Epic Mickey game. According to the NPD group who keeps track of these sorts of things, the lovable mouse helped propel sales of the game to the 1.3 million mark which made it land among the best-selling games for the month. These numbers are nothing to sneeze at, especially since Epic Mickey was released for the Wii gaming system only.
