Disney's Hollywood Studios Sign Involved In Small Fire

Disney's Hollywood Studios was the scene of a small electrical fire over the weekend that caused damage to one of its popular signs.

On Saturday night, the sign at the Magic of Disney Animation building caught fire when a ballast shorted out sometime around 9:20 PM. The area in and around the building was evacuated and no guests or cast members were injured during the small fire.

At this time, the show inside of the building is still up and running. It's lights out, however, for the sign until it's completely repaired.

The Astro Orbiter, a ride at the Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland, was closed on Sunday due to a small fire. One of the ride's lights shorted out and melted sometime that morning, causing officials to shut down the ride for the rest of the day.

Bo Jones, an assistant chief with Reedy Creek Emergency Services, called the incident "very minor" and stated "we had it out in no time."

The decorative ring at the top center of the ride was the location of the malfunction and the affected light.

Crews Battled Brush Fire At Disney This Week

Fire crews found themselves battling to contain a brush fire at the Walt Disney World Resort this past week. The blaze, which flared up in a wooded area between the Fort Wilderness Resort and a Magic Kingdom parking lot, first drew fire crews last Sunday.

Bob Jones, an assistant chief with Reedy Creek Emergency Services, said the fire flared up to 5 acres at one point. Neither the resort or park were in any danger, though the fire did spew a lot of smoke in its immediate vicinity.
